About us
This is the Official Page of UNICEF Tanzania. UNICEF has been on the ground in Tanzania since 1954 as part of its emergency operations, though the office was set up in 1975. Since then, UNICEF’s support to Tanzania has taken many forms guided by the changing situation of women and children in Tanzania as well as the Organization's priorities. UNICEF plays a unique role in Tanzania as an advocate for children’s rights, identifying gaps in their realization, providing technical advice and assistance to the Government in addressing the gaps, and bringing evidence to the table. UNICEF will not stop until every child has every right!

School must always go on. 📚 Even in the midst of an outbreak, students need to attend school, and learning should continue without disruption. UNICEF Tanzania is supporting efforts in #Kagera including providing WASH supplies to ensure students can continue learning while also being safe. 📚💙 #ForEveryChild

Reflecting back on Dr. Lauren Rumble’s Associate Director for Gender Equality at UNICEF's visit to Tanzania in January, we look back at key discussions on gender equality and adolescent girls’ empowerment. Her visit focused on education, health, and economic opportunities, exploring both progress and challenges in advancing girls’ rights. During her time here, she engaged with key stakeholders, explored innovative programs, and witnessed firsthand how investing in girls is shaping a brighter future. UNICEF Tanzania is working with Songwe region to tackle #ChildMarriage and #TeenPregnancy. By mobilizing communities and leaders, we’re challenging harmful norms and promoting safe, nurturing environments for all children. Together, we can end violence and build safer communities. #EndChildMarriage #ForEveryChild.
This week, UNICEF Tanzania engaged in planning and budgeting discussions with Songwe region to strengthen and sustain #ChildProtection efforts. With #ChildMarriage and #TeenPregnancy still major concerns, #UNICEF is supporting the government in advancing interventions that protect #children and #adolescents from harm. However, sustainable change requires shifting deeply rooted social and gender norms. Mobilizing communities, alongside religious and traditional leaders, is key in challenging harmful norms and practices and creating environments where all children can thrive. Their leadership is essential in addressing the beliefs and behaviors that perpetuate violence against #women and children. Additionally, positive parenting plays a crucial role in ensuring homes are safe, nurturing, and free from violence. UNICEF is encouraged by the strong commitment of leaders and frontline workers who are determined to drive impact and deliver results. Together, we can end violence and build safer communities #ForEveryChild. #EndChildMarriage #ProtectChildren #PositiveParenting Mbelwa Gabagambi Joseph Matimbwi Awet Araya Bahlbi mwiru alice Sid Shrestha Anastasiia Atif Jamie Lachman Nyasha Manjengenja (PhD) Ophilia Komugisha Karumuna Lilian Rutizibwa Tanzania Interfaith Partnership

Delighted to welcome H.E. Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Tanzania, Mr. Fahad Rashid Al Marekhi! A great exchange on key areas of collaboration, including our strong partnership with Education Above All Foundation to ensure out-of-school children across Tanzania have access to quality education. Together, we've enrolled over 34,000 children in Mainland Tanzania and 36,000 in Zanzibar, rehabilitated classrooms, provided learning materials, trained teachers, and supported adolescent girls with menstrual hygiene resources. Asante Sana to our partners for their continued commitment #ForEveryChild!

Behind every society are dedicated health officers working to protect communities from infectious diseases. In #Kagera, Masuke and Dativa are on the frontlines, responding to the #Marburg outbreak. @UNICEFTanzania is working hand in hand with the Ministry of Health in Tanzania and partners to provide support to health officers, ensuring proper disinfection and decontamination at screening points and Points of Entry so that suspected cases receive lifesaving treatment. Together, we can keep every child and family safe. #ForEveryChild
