Today, the flag was raised, not just as a symbol, but as a beacon of hope for ten Ugandan golfers embarking on a journey to the 2025 Absa Magical Kenya Open. From February 19 to 23, these golfers will take part in the Pro-Am event and the main tournament at Muthaiga Golf Club, a revered stage that will host 144 elite players from around the world. Our sponsorship covers flights, accommodation, and a financial support package of USD 4,745 for professionals who qualify for the main event, ensuring they can prepare and compete without hindrance. With a total investment of UGX 100 million, we aim to provide a seamless experience, covering everything from meals and transport to tournament fees and branded merchandise, empowering these athletes to shine on an international platform. Last year marked a historic milestone for Ugandan golf as Ronald Rugumayo became the first Ugandan to make the cut at a DP World Tour event. His achievement was a testament to the potential within Uganda’s golfing community, and we are proud to have played a part in his journey. This year’s sponsorship builds on that legacy, reflecting our unwavering dedication to fostering talent and creating opportunities for Ugandan players to excel. Over the past seven years, we have supported 63 players, each one contributing to the growing story of Ugandan golf on the global stage. This initiative is more than just financial support; it is a belief in the power of dreams and a story of resilience of those who pursue them. By providing these athletes with the resources they need, we are not only investing in their individual futures but also in the broader vision of elevating Ugandan golf. As the players step onto the greens of Muthaiga, they carry with them the hopes of a nation, and we stand behind them, committed to nurturing their potential and celebrating their journey. Together, we are shaping a legacy that extends far beyond the tournament, one swing at a time. #YourStoryMatters

Today, our team ventured further east to Mbale City, a key agricultural and trading hub, to engage with Bugisu Co-operative Union (BCU)—a leading force in Uganda’s coffee sector. Established to empower local farmers, BCU has been instrumental in aggregating, processing, and exporting high-quality Arabica coffee, a commodity that remains Uganda’s top foreign exchange earner. Led by Interim Managing Director David A. Wandera, FCCA, our team engaged with the leadership of BCU to explore how Absa’s business banking solutions can further support Uganda’s thriving coffee industry. From agribusiness financing to trade solutions and value chain support, we recognize the pivotal role agriculture plays in shaping Uganda’s economy. By enabling cooperatives like BCU with the right financial tools, we’re ensuring farmers access working capital, modern processing infrastructure, and international markets—allowing them to write even greater success stories in coffee trade. Absa Bank Uganda reposted this
"The Authority is in the process of reviewing the current legal framework as well as formulating a regulatory framework for issuers to raise long-term patient capital through various market-based financing options, such as sukuk bonds and ETFs, among others. This initiative aims to increase savings options for investors and capital-raising options for issuers. The Deal Flow Facility, in partnership with the European Union and housed under FSD Uganda, is an initiative geared towards bolstering the attractiveness of Ugandan businesses, enabling them to benefit from long-term capital." "Additionally, the Authority is focused on capacity building for licensed market intermediaries as a key catalyst for the sustainable participation of issuers and investors. Regional integration of capital markets is also a work in progress to enhance market depth within the region."
