As we approach the end of 2024, have you achieved the goals you set for this year? If not, would you want to know how to do better in 2025? African Network for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. recently organized an insightful workshop at the National ICT Innovation Hub in which Grace Kenganzi was the guest speaker. Her message was incredibly simple, realistic and well-delivered. During the event, we discovered that one of the ladies had achieved 100% of her 2024 goals!! Can you believe that? As for me, I think it’s time to leave the wishful thinking behind in 2024 and make it happen in 2025. I bet you would want that too!
Here are some of my key takeaways from the session📝 :
The Do’s of Goal Setting:
1. Keep them short and focused: Identify your top priorities for the year and ensure your list is realistic.
2. Make SMART goals: Goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound.
3. Find accountability partners: Surround yourself with people who will remind and encourage you to stay on track.
4. Break it down: Dive into the details of each goal and figure out the steps you need to take. Remember, small, consistent actions can eventually lead to big achievements..
5. Make it personal: Your goals should be driven by your own vision, not by what everyone else is doing.
6. Learn from the past: Reflect on what helped or hindered your progress with previous goals.
The Don’ts of Goal Setting:
1. Do not wait for January: Start setting goals now to allow ample time for reflection and planning.
2. Do not rely on memory: Write your goals and their action steps in a notebook or keep them in a folder for regular review.
3. Do not go solo: Build a community that can provide guidance, resources, or encouragement along the way.
Grace’s insights challenged me to rethink how I approach my goals, and I hope they do the same for you. As you start planning for 2025, be very intentional as you set out to achieve each one.
