Airtel Uganda partners with ZTE Nubia to enhance digital Inclusion and smartphone Penetration in the Country. Airtel Uganda and ZTE Nubia have launched a new range of affordable smartphones, unveiling the ZTE Nubia to the Ugandan market. The launch event, held at Protea Hotel, introduced devices that come with free Airtel Uganda data bundles of 15GB for three months, offering an innovative way to make technology accessible to a broader audience. Michael Xue of ZTE UGANDA LIMITED, spoke about the significance of the partnership with Airtel Uganda, describing it as a shared commitment to meeting customer needs. "This collaboration reinforces our brand’s promise to provide high-quality yet affordable smartphones that are tailored to empower Ugandans," Xue stated, adding that ZTE is committed to delivering innovative solutions that improve lives. Hon. Nyombi Tembo, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission, discussed the broader importance of accessible technology. He pointed out that advancements in ICT must reach more people to make a meaningful impact. "Moore’s Law tells us that computing power continues to double while costs decrease, making it easier for more people to access life-changing technology," Tembo remarked. He further assured that as regulators, the Uganda Communications Commission would work to ensure smartphones become more affordable, to put smart devices into the hands of all SIM card holders. Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, commended ZTE for introducing a tool that she believes will empower young Ugandans. "This technology has the potential to change lives," Kabanda said, encouraging consumers to embrace the new devices and use them responsibly to unlock their full potential. Ali Balunywa, Airtel Uganda’s Sales and Distribution Director for Core Market, praised the collaboration with ZTE, emphasizing how it aligns with Airtel’s goal of improving digital inclusion. "Innovations like these are made possible by Airtel’s reliable internet, ensuring users can fully experience the advanced features of devices like the Nubia," Balunywa explained. He also reaffirmed Airtel’s commitment to providing affordable data and supporting initiatives that expand access to connectivity. The event ended on a celebratory note with performances by Ugandan artists David Lutalo and Laika Music. The launch of the ZTE Nubia is poised to redefine Uganda’s smartphone market by offering affordable, feature-rich devices coupled with improved connectivity options. Airtel Africa is committed to driving transformative change across the continent, starting with our children. This dedication aligns with our core company objectives and African Union's vision of achieving the 'Africa We Want'. Today, as we mark #WorldChildrensDay, we reflect on the progress we've made in addressing the critical changes needed to improve education systems for children across the continent in partnership with UNICEF. In 2021, we launched this partnership as part of a $57 million commitment to support digital education and help bridge the digital divide for vulnerable children in remote communities, in collaboration with African governments. This partnership now in its third year has connected over 1,200 schools to the internet, trained 17,000 teachers to use digital tools, and reached more than 1 million students with high-quality digital education resources across 13 African countries. We are proud of the milestones we've attained thus far in equipping African children with essential digital tools for a brighter future. And as we acknowledge that more needs to be done, we commit to do more in the coming years to achieve the transformation of Africa's education and empower the continent's future leaders. #AirtelAfrica #WorldChildrensDay #DigitalEducation
