Mentorship changes lives. In the REAL Fathers Program, young fathers are guided by mentors who equip them with essential skills like effective communication, anger management, and conflict resolution. These tools help them foster respect, prevent GBV, and build safer homes for their families. Mentors play a critical role in shaping these young fathers into positive role models, creating a ripple effect of change in their communities. Together, we’re breaking the cycle of violence and nurturing healthier relationships. 🧡 #EndGBV #MentorshipForChange #PositiveFatherhood #16DaysOfActivism2024

Child Wellbeing Committees (CWCs) are at the heart of coordinated efforts to protect children and address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Uganda. During the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development's visit to Bunyangabu District, we showcased how CWCs are driving change by identifying and responding to cases of violence and ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing. Through multi-sectoral coordination, CWCs bring together stakeholders from health, education, justice, and social welfare to holistically address child protection issues. From empowering communities to report and manage cases, while escalating complex ones, they are creating a safer environment for children and families. This visit highlights the importance of collaboration in operationalizing the National Child Policy and scaling these promising practices to other districts. Together, we can build a future free from violence. 🧡 #EndGBV #ChildProtection #NationalChildPolicy #CollaborationForChange #16DaysOfActivism2024

Cooking demos play a great role in empowering teen mothers by providing them with more than just culinary skills. These interactive sessions are crucial in teaching practical nutrition knowledge, food preparation techniques, and resourceful cooking strategies that help them manage limited household resources effectively. For many of these young mothers, access to nutrition education and hands-on practice is limited, yet essential for nurturing healthy families. The cooking demos introduce them to balanced meal planning and demonstrate how to prepare nutritious, cost-effective meals for themselves and their children. Beyond nutrition, these sessions boost confidence and self-sufficiency, fostering a sense of achievement that extends into other areas of life. Through equipping teen mothers with these fundamental skills, the programs help them build a path toward greater independence and a more stable future, ultimately strengthening their families and communities. #TeenMothers #Empowerment #Nutrition #CommunitySupport #LifeSkillsDevelopment

Globally, 1 in 5 girls becomes a mother before turning 18. This significant statistic underscores the urgent need to invest in education, mentorship, and tailored support for teen mothers to create opportunities that help them thrive. Supporting young mothers is more than addressing immediate needs, it’s a critical step towards breaking cycles of poverty and fostering resilience within communities. Empowerment programs that offer skills training, counseling, and economic opportunities not only uplift teen mothers but also create ripple effects that benefit their children and society at large. As we continue to advocate for these young women, it's important to recognise their potential as change makers in their families and communities. #Empowerment #TeenMothers #CommunitySupport #Education #BreakingBarriers

Bantwana Initiative Uganda remains steadfast in our mission to end violence against children and build a world where they can thrive. This week, our Executive Director, Susan Kajura, proudly represented us at the Global Ministerial Conference in Bogotá, Colombia. The Africa Satellite Event gathered global leaders, including Uganda’s Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahara, to discuss and advance strategies for protecting children's rights in line with the African Charter. Violence against children impacts millions globally, taking many forms; physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Its effects ripple through communities, creating cycles of trauma and economic instability. At Bantwana, we know that addressing these challenges requires community-led, evidence-based approaches. Our work prioritizes positive parenting, shared gender roles, and violence prevention as we empower families and reshape societal norms for a brighter future. We are grateful for partnerships with organizations such as Population Council, FAWE Uganda, REPSSI, The AfriChild Centre, and UNICEF Uganda, which enhance the impact of our initiatives.
