Enterprising solutions to Global Challenges

About us

Challenges Uganda has offered Business Development services to more than 150 SMEs since 2014. Our mission is to enable businesses to grow, through implementing good practice and encouraging the development of SME-centred products and services. Our work is based on the belief that a thriving ecosystem of innovative businesses is vital for a strong Ugandan economy, where everyone benefits from increased earnings and stable and meaningful employment. As part of The Challenges Group we have extensive experience in capacity building, service provision, product research, market analysis and market linkages within many sectors across Sub-Saharan Africa. Challenges utilises a customer-centric design approach by working with our businesses all the way from analysis through to implementation. We have developed a diagnostic toolkit tailored to the Ugandan business environment, which allows us to pinpoint key operational issues to address and craft solutions suited to individual needs. We are also one of fifteen global partners of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and are proud to offer CMI-accredited management and leadership training courses, teaching best-practice that is vital for competitive businesses. Finally, Challenges offers an accredited youth internship programme, in which we place Ugandan youths within businesses to perform challenging analytical work and support them with ongoing training. This programme is demonstrably successful: approximately 70 percent of our alumni network achieve stable employment within 6 months of the programme ending.

  • Sales and marketing are the cornerstone of business growth, especially in today’s digital era where having a strong online presence pays off massively. That’s why our recent Sales and Marketing Training focused on equipping local entrepreneurs with essential digital marketing skills. The training covered Digital Marketing, Social Media Strategy, Brand Communication, and Public Relations (PR) for Business. Participants learned how to effectively position their brands online, create engaging social media content, and build strong brand identities. This training is part of our ongoing efforts under the RISE/E Programme to empower local businesses with the tools they need for growth and success. We can't wait to see how participants will apply the skills acquired from this training to enhance their digital presence and grow their brands. #RISEE Standard Chartered || Sightsavers || NUDIPU UGANDA || Hendricah Rita || Stephen Kaye || Marcel Koomson CMgr MCMI

  • In the context of Big Energy Saving Week 2025, we are putting our partner, African Clean Energy (ACE), in the spotlight! In collaboration with ACE, we seek to establish a scalable, decentralized, and digitized distribution model for sustainable briquettes in Uganda, focusing on Lira and Gulu. With Energy Catalyst's support, the ACE project aims to develop an inclusive approach to reconfigure its infrastructure, including local retailers and motorcycle riders, for efficient last-mile delivery. Using ACE's app, ACE Connect, the digital framework will enhance access to affordable, sustainable cooking options. This innovation is not only addressing energy distribution challenges but is also helping households save on energy usage and costs. By transitioning from traditional charcoal, kerosene and firewood to clean, efficient briquettes paired with ACE's solar-biomass hybrid energy system, families spend less on energy while enjoying higher efficiency.
