As the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project unfolds, the voices of those living in/within Oil communities are more crucial than ever. Our "Voices Unleashed" Project Team interacted with some of the residents from Hoima and Buliisa Districts, Uganda who expressed their deep concerns about the Project. Food security, not oil security! We use our land to feed our people, how will oil feed us. (Atugonza Agnes from Kigaaga village). Community rights, not corporate rights! Whenever we want to talk our issues, the security agencies and the oil workers scare us away. Please listen to our concerns about the ongoing oil projects. Despite their concerns, the stories of resilience and resistance of these communities shine through. It is time to listen. We urge policymakers, investors, and stakeholders to prioritize the voices of local communities. Their concerns and experiences are important in shaping a project that respects both people and the planet. On 3rd August, 2024, CJA launched (internally) it's Project, "Voices Unleashed" that will target vulnerable and marginalized communities/persons with a focus on conducting Climate vulnerability impact assessment while documenting/collecting Stories of Self, lived experiences of communities/persons amidst the ongoing Climate Crisis across the Planet Earth with informed recommendations for concrete action. Some organisations might have done the same already, however, Our Particular Project is action-based in a way that we will not only document stories of these targeted communities but also lobby for support to address the identified challenges while building resilience through climate action initiatives implementation.
