About us
Concern for the Girl Child is a Child focused Non-Government Organization that was founded in 2001 by Dr. Ann F. Hayes and Freddie Henry Kasozi (R.I.P). The organization was founded with the main aim of empowering the vulnerable girl child through the provision of access to Education, health information and child protection by lobbying and advocating for the rights of children at all levels. Together with the community, schools and families, CGC has soldiered on in this work and so far, 1000 girls and their families in the communities of Luwero, Nakaseke and Kampala, specifically in Nakawa Division have been impacted. CGC has since expanded both in geographical and programme scope and this can only be attributed to its ability to partner with and work hand in hand with Civil Society Organizations that are like-minded, Funding Agencies that are aligned with our values and vision, local governments that have given us the mandate to implement on their behalf and the communities that have so willingly cooperated. 🎨 Art as a Tool for Advocacy Today, the Sauti Ya Dada girls from Kamira Sub-County hosted a community dialogue with parents and local leaders to address the challenges they face in accessing education. Through a beautifully crafted mural, these young advocates highlighted pressing issues such as long distances to schools, poor infrastructure, and lack of food. Their message was clear: it's time for action to make education accessible for all. This initiative, supported by Creative Action Institute demonstrates the power of creativity in driving social change. By empowering girls to voice their concerns and propose solutions, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive future. Let’s champion the cause of education and amplify these voices of change! #GirlsEducation #AdvocacyThroughArt #CreativeAction #SocialImpact #16DaysofActivisim

We are grateful to BarefootLaw for providing legal advice to vulnerable communities and to Mott Foundation for supporting the Haven Project. Ending gender-based violence requires collective action, and together we are equipping girls and their guardians with the knowledge they need to stand against injustice and build a brighter future. #NoExcuses for GBV. #EndGBV #BarefootLaw #16DaysOfActivism
Today, we kicked off our #16DaysOfActivism with a Legal Clinic under the Concern for the Girl Child Haven Project, which is making a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable girls in Ntinda Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District. At the legal clinic, our dedicated legal team provided invaluable legal information to the girls from the Haven Project as well as their guardians who were also in attendance. This included crucial insights into gender-based violence in all its forms, child rights, and child labor laws. By equipping these young girls with knowledge about their rights and the legal protections available to them, we empower them to stand up against injustice and build a brighter future. The Haven Project is implemented in partnership with BarefootLaw and supported by the Mott Foundation. #noexcuses #BarefootLaw #EndGBV

These supplies are more than just materials—they are tools of empowerment. They will help young girls excel academically and provide essential support to meet their daily needs, inspiring confidence and hope for a brighter future. Thank you, St. Luke’s Church Ntinda, for being a part of this transformative journey. Together, we’re shaping lives and building stronger communities. #GirlsEducation #EmpowerHer #CommunityImpact #Gratitude #donation

Breaking Barriers, Building a Safer Future This morning, our Executive Director, Marjorie Sseruwo, joined @SpiritTVUg to shed light on an issue that impacts us all: Gender-Based Violence. As we prepare to commemorate the #16DaysOfActivism, the discussion highlighted a powerful truth—real change starts with collective action. Gender-based violence is not just a social issue; it’s a challenge to human rights, equity, and our shared future. These 16 days are a powerful reminder that awareness sparks change and that collaboration drives solutions. As leaders, organizations, and individuals, we all have a role to play: 👉 Advocate for safer spaces. 👉 Support survivors with empathy. 👉 Challenge norms that perpetuate violence. How are you or your organization contributing to the fight against GBV? Let’s use this platform to share ideas, resources, and inspiration that can drive real impact. Together, we can create a world where safety, dignity, and equality are non-negotiable. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ejJaHuma #EndGBV #CollaborationForChange #16DaysOfActivism #cgcat25

The #BugandaChildrensParliament is happening now, and we are thrilled to see young girls taking on leadership roles! Patricia is serving as Speaker, and Catherine is the Sergeant at Arms. This is a testament to what happens when girls are empowered to step into spaces where they can express themselves and represent their peers. We believe in nurturing leadership and building confidence in young girls. Join us in celebrating these inspiring young leaders! #EndChildMarriage #EnpowerGirls

#Monitoringvisit During the recent joint monitoring, stakeholders visited our Vocational Microsites Project in Kamira Sub-county, seeing firsthand the remarkable progress in the leather and hairdressing classes. They also toured the underground water tank at the Mazzi Resource Centre, a vital source of clean water for the Mazzi community. The visit concluded with a stop at the home of one of the girls enrolled in the Education Support program, witnessing the positive impact this project brings to their lives and families. Together, we're building skills, supporting communities, and transforming futures! #vocationaltraining #CommunitySupport #empoweringgirls
