This meeting is part of the efforts under the 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙆𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 implemented by GRA which aims at creating a protective environment for children amidst the growth of the mining sector in Mubende and Kassanda Districts. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including leaders from mining associations such as the Kayonza Kitumbi Mining Association, Federation of Artisanal Miners Uganda, and Mubende United Gold Miners Association (MUMA), alongside district leaders. The meeting provided an avenue for the stakeholders to elaborately discuss the issue of child labour in the mines. Some of the key action points from the meeting included; ⭐️ Massive sensitization on the Mining and Minerals Act 2022, focusing on provisions that prohibit child labour. ⭐️ Joint development of a register of both the workers and mining pits to identify the demographics of the workforce. ⭐️ Creation of district bylaws in collaboration with all stakeholders and sensitisation campaigns to raise awareness among mine workers and the surrounding communities. ⭐️ Research on new license owners and mining pits to understand the nature and demographics of workers employed. This is part of GRA’s effort and commitment towards eradicating child labour in the mining sector and ensuring that children’s rights are safeguarded alongside industry development. #ExtractivesUG #ChildrenRights #HimanRightsForAll

  • #16DaysOfActivism #Day09 Large-scale mining, oil, and gas projects have been shown to negatively impact women’s rights and gender equality, particularly in rural areas. In Uganda, only 16% of women own registered land, which limits their influence over land use and increases their vulnerability to displacement, conflict, and gender-based violence related to land. During #16DaysOfActivism2024, we call for an end to forced evictions and advocate for community-driven land decisions that uphold and respect women’s rights. #NOEXCUSE #EndGBV #StopTheViolence

  • Did you know? One in three girls below the age of 15 in Uganda was forced into their first sexual encounter. As the World commemorates the world AIDS Day, we highlight the importance of safeguarding health and human rights. During the #16DaysOfActivism, we emphasise how violence against children and women continues to drive the spread of HIV/AIDS. Let's stand together against the violation of children’s rights. #16daysofactivism2024 #EndAIDS2030Ug
