  • This week, Housing Finance Bank actively participated in the 6th edition of the NBS Housing Baraza, a platform that continues to spark important dialogues on Uganda’s housing state, challenges and opportunities for building better communities. For three insightful days, industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders shared knowledge, innovative ideas, and practical solutions aimed at addressing the housing needs of all Ugandans. From tackling affordability gaps to exploring sustainable housing options, the conversations reaffirmed that collaboration and innovation are key to building a future where homeownership is accessible to everyone. In her remarks on Day 3, Peace K. Ayebazibwe, our Executive Director, said: “ At Housing Finance Bank, we remain dedicated to equipping Ugandans with the tools they need to achieve their housing dreams. The growth of Incremental Housing Solution and its potential highlights the transformative power of collaboration in creating lasting solutions. Ms. Ayebazibwe added: “As Uganda’s leading housing finance partner, we are proud of the strides made towards awareness, policy alignment, and mindset change during this event. With over 7,500 homes financed and our focus on empowering women, youth, and the informal sector, we are dedicated to shaping a sustainable and inclusive housing landscape.” In a panel discussion, our Head of Microfinance, Annet Nakigudde Ssebugwawo, presented Zimba Mpola Mpola, our incremental housing loan designed for low-income earners to build homes step by step.     During Day 2 of the NBS Housing Baraza, Dorothy Namutebi, Manager of Sustainability at Housing Finance Bank, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to financing eco-friendly homes and fostering communities that prioritize environmental conservation. Speaking on the bank’s initiatives, Dorothy highlighted how Housing Finance Bank integrates solutions like solar energy, water recycling, and conservation measures into its financing options to make housing greener and more cost-effective. She also emphasized the importance of partnerships with organizations such as AFD, Water Equity, and the Uganda Energy Credit Capitalization Company, which enable customers to access affordable funding for renewable energy and water solutions. Dorothy underscored the need for involving qualified professionals, such as architects and interior designers, during the design phase of construction to avoid costly mistakes. She pointed out that Housing Finance Bank has partnered with professional associations like the Interior Design Association and the Association for Real Estate to guide customers toward trusted expertise. Additionally, she called for the adoption of technology-driven solutions such as Building Information Modeling, a tool that uses artificial intelligence to optimize designs, reduce material waste, and identify cost-saving alternatives, ensuring efficiency at every stage of construction. Dorothy also shared the bank’s commitment to ensuring quality and going beyond financing. At its mortgage center, Housing Finance Bank connects customers with expert advice, recommends cost-effective solutions, and partners with trusted providers to ensure their projects are both sustainable and affordable. The bank is also pursuing a sustainability certification (SSCI) to attract more funding partners, reinforcing its role in driving sustainable and affordable housing solutions.
