At the just concluded #DINIAWARDS2024, we proudly awarded Salaama School for the Blind Best Education Institution! The Salaama School was established in 1999 and has since given meaningful lives to over 800 visually impaired persons through education in the arts, crafts, music, dance, drama among other fields. Currently, the school accommodates 84 learners comprising of 43 boys and 41 girls who have continued the tradition of sustainability for visually impaired persons. Congratulations to Salaama School for such great commitment to inclusive education and a beacon of hope and opportunity!
During the #DINIAWARDS2024, Ms. Guzu Beatrice, Executive Director, Guzu Foundation emphasized that empowerment of PWDs starts with parents accepting their children and extends to community and government support. Acceptance is the first step towards empowerment.
During the #DINIAWARDS2024, Mr. Musinguzi Julius, Program Officer at NUDIPU, emphasized the importance of including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in decision-making processes, from local leadership at the LC1 level to parliamentary representation. He stressed that PWDs should not be excluded from policy formulation, a mission that organizations like NUDIPU and Ivy Braille Foundation are committed to advancing.
During the #DINIAWARDS2024 Ms. Lydia Abenaitwe, Programs Officer Light for the World noted that many PWDs face challenges due to low expectations from society. Despite these hurdles, it's crucial for individuals with disabilities to build resilience and readiness to handle life's challenges.
Proud moment as we launched the inaugural hashtag #DINIAwards2024 on 10/08/2024! This marks a launchpad for what will become an annual event that recognizes and amplifies the voices of PWDs. We were humbled most by the great support given to us by all our sponsors and stakeholders in this initiative.
