We identify, recruit and train directors and board of directors for advancement of East African businesses.
About us
LEAD was formed after realising that companies in need of directors did not have any consolidated reference point and tended to rely on personal references to make board level appointment. There seemed to be a chronic shortage of eligible directors as evidenced by the same faces on different boards. It was felt, that something could be done to change the position. LEAD felt compelled to make a contribution by identifying potential directors, creating a database of such individuals, developing those that needed development, making those resources available to the market, assisting with board trainings and development etc.

𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗘𝗢 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰! 🏆 This recognition by League of East African Directors is a true honor and a testament to the journey of resilience, collaboration, and purpose-driven leadership. Having served on many boards over the years, I’ve learned that there are no shortcuts to being the best—only the commitment to upholding principles and fostering a culture of excellence. In today’s world, corporate governance is not just a framework; it’s a competitive advantage. It builds trust, drives innovation, ensures long-term sustainability, and empowers businesses to navigate complexity with confidence. At Standard Chartered, we’ve institutionalized governance to the highest standards, and this recognition is a reflection of that ethos. I cannot miss this moment to recognize our incredible team and colleagues whose dedication and excellence make everything possible. This award is as much yours as it is mine. Together, we’ve demonstrated that governance is not just a set of rules—it’s a mindset that drives sustainable progress. Having being asked a few times, I share five principles that I believe underpin being a supportive and impactful CEO: 1. Governance as a Foundation of Excellence A well-governed organization is built to last. It provides the structure for ethical decision-making and long-term value creation. 2. Teamwork Makes Governance Work Strong corporate governance is always a team effort. Empowering and trusting teams to deliver is key to creating lasting impact. 3. Integrity and Transparency Build Trust In today’s interconnected world, transparency is non-negotiable. It’s what sets apart organizations that lead with purpose. 4. Experience Shapes Leadership Serving on boards has taught me invaluable lessons about adaptability, collaboration, and making principled decisions even in the most challenging times. 5. Purpose Must Guide Progress Governance goes beyond compliance—it’s about creating meaningful impact for stakeholders, society, and future generations. To everyone who has walked this journey with me—thank you. Your belief, support, and shared commitment inspire me every day. Let’s continue to champion governance as a driver of trust, growth, and innovation in today’s world. #NEDAwards2024 #CorporateGovernance #Leadership #StandardChartered #Teamwork #Gratitude #Sustainability #HereForGood YPO , IFAC , TradeMark Africa , British Chamber of Commerce Uganda, Level, Uganda Bankers' Association

One week ago, on the 28th November 2024, the Chairman of JKC Consulting Japheth Katto, was honored to receive the NED Life time awards at this years #NEDAwards2024 by League of East African Directors. Below is his acceptance Speech. 1. People ask me how my interest in or obsession with #Corporate #Governance (#CG) began. My interest in corporate governance was greatly influenced by my career. After completing my #ACCA in the UK in the early 1980s, I did companies winding up, companies investigation and financial services regulation work. I realised that many companies failed, not because they did not have business, but because of poor corporate governance. This was re-enforced by the corporate failures of the Enrons, the bank failures in Uganda in late 90s and early 2000s and my experience at Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Uganda. 2. This is why I started preaching corporate governance and encouraging companies and other organizations to make corporate governance part of their DNA. In fact at JKC Consulting all our meetings start with a governance moment. After a prayer of course. Together with our partners, Ligomarc Advocates, Steadman Global Consulting, and Covea we also preach this message to the public through our flagship program, The Boardroom Masterclass which many of you have attended. 3. I thank LEAD for continuing to hold the #NEDAwards. I also thank those who nominated and voted for me. I have received two NED awards before, in 2021 and 2O22 but this is the pinnacle of the awards. Thank you for the honour and I’m greatly humbled. 4. I would not have received this award if it was not for the advice, guidance, and support of the various board members, chief executives, company secretaries, and Exco members in the different companies and organisations where I have been on the board as chair or member. I will take the risk of mentioning a few - Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Uganda, Stanbic Bank Uganda, Uganda Breweries Limited, East African Breweries PLC (EABL), International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), ACCA, Duke of Edinburgh International Award Uganda and Junior Achievement. And of course where I am currently on the boards namely Bank of Uganda, International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC), and JKC Consulting . I would also like to thank some CG gurus I bounce off #corporategovernance ideas from time to time, particularly Winnie Tarinyeba Kiryabwire, Dr. Rita Kabatunzi and Miriam Ekirapa Musaali. In a special way, I would like to acknowledge the support and inspiration I get every day from my colleagues at JKC Consulting namely CPA Grace Jethro Kavuma, Ivan C.Kalema, Jackie Namara Rukare - Chartered Marketer, FCIM and Emmanuel Ejeu plus all consultants we work with on various assignments. By the way, Grace who is representing me today was my board chairman at CMA. 5. I dedicate this award to all of the above-mentioned. 6. Once again thank you for the honour. God bless you. For God and My Country.
