We are delighted to have been a part of the osckampala open-source community meetup. It was a pleasure engaging with the vibrant developer community in Uganda, who are dedicated to fostering the growth of open-source initiatives in Africa. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with them on future endeavours and fostering mutual growth.
On Saturday, February 15, 2025, we successfully hosted our open-source community meetup. The event attracted developers from both the open-source community and other developer communities. Our main speaker, Awath Abdat, delivered a talk on developer burnout and effective strategies for managing it while maintaining productivity. Attendees shared their personal experiences with burnout and the coping mechanisms they employed. Some developers found solace in pursuing hobbies outside of programming to alleviate burnout. Additionally, it is crucial to seek employment opportunities where employers prioritise mental well-being and provide support for managing burnout. We extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors, StartHub Africa and Tek Talent Africa, for their invaluable contributions to the success of this meetup. We eagerly anticipate future partnerships and look forward to reconnecting with our communities.

Are AI regulations good for AI progress in Africa? During the Paris AI Action summit, a global AI regulation policy was passed and signed by the top leading countries in AI, including France, China, India, and more. Some of the notable countries that did not sign the policy include the US and the UK. The US, according to Vice President JD Vance, found the policy to be quite restricting and could stifle AI development on an international scale. The UK, on the other hand, did not put its name on the regulation for national security and global governance reasons. French President Emmanuel Macron believes these rules need to be put in place to act as a safety net for further AI development. Which brings us to our position as Africa. What role are we playing in regards to advancing Ai safety as a continent? What shared values do we have in regards to the Ai agenda? All these questions need to be answered for Africa to lay the foundation for home grown Ai solutions. https://lnkd.in/gGEvqk7g
