So what causes high cholesterol? Cholesterol is a naturally occurring substance made by the liver and required by the body for the proper function of cells, nerves, and hormones. However, when levels of cholesterol become excessive, it can accumulate and form fatty plaques on artery walls, reducing blood flow to critical parts of the body. Over time, this buildup of plaque can significantly elevate the risk of heart attacks and strokes. While the body maintains cholesterol balance, an unhealthy diet rich in hydrogenated fats and refined carbohydrates can disturb this equilibrium, leading to higher cholesterol levels. This imbalance is often reflected in elevated levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) and reduced levels of HDL (good cholesterol), increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, factors such as physical inactivity, diabetes, stress, and hypothyroidism can contribute to this imbalance, further raising the likelihood of heart attacks or strokes. in cholesterol levels. #Cholesterol #healthyeating #harmonywithfood #wellness
