What does Digital Trust mean to you? ISACA Kampala Chapter’s 13th annual information security conference started yesterday at the Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo. Emmanuel Mugabi lead such a power packed digital trust panel discussion. The session covered the different aspects of first building and then maintaining trust at enterprise level in the context of East Africa. Does paying it forward impact the young generation starting out in cybersecurity? Many global and national level reports inform us of the growing cybersecurity talent gap even when the threats are on the rise! This information is attracting youth to the cybersecurity profession. The question many face is where to start or whom to consult. Most of the most requested cybersecurity certifications listed in job adverts are out of reach for many due to cost and also the experience requirement. This creates a gap for the youth on where to go. On a lighter note, Milima Cyber Academy is fixing this gap in Kampala by offering affordable cybersecurity short training courses that any young person can attend to start their career. In doing this, Milima is also contributing to the implementation of Uganda's Digital Transformation Roadmap which highlights the need for capacity building in cybersecurity. Thanks to Emmanuel CHAGARA for relentlessly pursuing the Milima dream into reality. Based on the above, we had to show up when we were invited to deliver a career guidance session to the current cohort. In his talk, Emmanuel Mugabi informed the participants where the opportunities exist as aligned to Uganda's landscape. Thanks to Centenary Technology Services for supporting this. We promised the cohort another one on one session to guide each participant on mapping out cybersecurity career path that meets their strengths and interests. We are always eager to pay it forward and help the young generation that will soon be at the helm of driving a secure digital transformation.
