About us
Wezesha Impact (formerly MCE Uganda) works to improve the employment outcomes of youth in Africa. Our purpose is to prepare youth to thrive socially and economically. We do this by running an innovative and experiential program equipping out of school youth and youth enrolled in vocational training with entrepreneurship, employability, and skills in civic engagement. This experience then enables 1. Find and thrive in employment 2. Start and grow businesses and 3. Actively address local community issues

This week, we were honoured to host Julia Pettengill and Cynthia Ryan from The Schooner Foundation in Northern Uganda to learn more about Wezesha Impact work. They had the opportunity to engage with Acayo Winnie an alumni of the Wezesha Impact program experience running Tarsha Beauty Parlour. Winnie offers beauty hairdressing services and sells hair products. Winnie offers beauty hairdressing services and sells hair products. She also trains young women in her community who are interested in crafting their hairdressing skills. From the business, Winnies has acquired a plot of land and is able to take her 3 children to school and meet her personal needs. Thank you The Schooner Foundation for the opportunity and interest to learn about the Wezesha Impact program experience and we look forward to exploring future potential collaborations. #YouthEntrepreneurship
Empowering youth for a brighter future! Wezesha Impact Impact equips young people with the skills and tools needed for entrepreneurship and employment, enabling them to start, sustain, and grow businesses—ultimately improving employment outcomes. The Schooner Foundation had the privilege of visiting Wezesha Impact in Gulu, Northern Uganda, to learn more about their impactful work. During our visit, Cynthia Ryan and I met Acayo Winnie Tracy, a Wezesha Impact alumna and the entrepreneur behind Tarsha Beauty Parlour. Winnie provides hairdressing services, sells hair products, and trains young women in her community, helping them develop valuable skills in hairdressing. Through her business, she has achieved remarkable milestones—purchasing a plot of land, supporting her three children’s education, and achieving financial independence. A recent external impact evaluation of the Wezesha Impact program revealed: ✅ 88% of graduates are actively participating in the labor force ✅ 76% increase in women’s wages ✅ $300 annual income growth for graduates A huge thank you to Executive Director Solomon Kayiwa Mugambe, James Katumba, and the entire Wezesha Impact team for your dedication and transformative work. On-going: Better Regional Migration Management (BRMM) project training: This week, we embarked on a 5 day financial education training for 200 returnee migrants. This training is aimed at equpping the participants with financial literacy skills so that they can make better and informed financial decisions. The (BRMM) project focuses on addressing reintegration challenges for returned migrants in Uganda, particularly in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area. BRMM Phase II aims to support the socio-economic reintegration of 400 returned migrants through improved employment services and entrepreneurship training.

We are excited to highlight that James Katumba - Managing Director at Wezesha Impact participated in a consultation breakfast hosted by H.E. Frederieke Quispel, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands that focused on the future of Ugandan-Dutch development cooperation. The consultation focused on aligning Dutch foreign policy priorities for 2024-2028 with Uganda's socio-economic development. We extend our gratitude to Ambassador Quispel and the Netherlands Embassy for recognizing the value of grassroots perspectives in shaping sustainable policies.
