✨ 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗔 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 ✨ We look back on an incredible year of impact. By providing quality education, vocational skills, and vital services through various projects, we've served over 10,000 members of both refugee and host communities in Uganda. We anticipate that our support has a far wider ripple effect, benefiting families and improving the lives of more than 30,000 people. None of this would have been possible without YOU: our partners, donors, community leaders, and supporters. Your trust and collaboration have been the foundation of everything we’ve achieved. Thank you for being part of this journey. 🙏 A heartfelt thank you to all YARID staff & volunteers - in Kampala, Nakivale, Palabek, and Kyaka II Refugee Settlement - your passion and commitment continue to drive our mission forward.❤️ From all of us at YARID, we wish you a joyful holiday season and a Happy New Year!🎉🎄 We resume work on January 6. After yesterday's successful launch, unveiling and signing contracts with the twelve LEAD project implementing partners, today Woord en Daad together with the twelve partners met with honourable Hilary Onek, the Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees. Also in attendance was Mr. Okello Patrick, the commissioner in charge of refugees in the office of the Prime Minister of Uganda. The meeting was convened by the minister to have a deeper reflection on critical considerations, enablers and available opportunities for a successful implementation of the LEAD project. Jacob J. Vreugdenhil the Woord en Daad Director emphasised the need to look at the wider system approach, with government's mandate to bring all efforts together to align with the vision of the sector. He added that Woord en Daad will be there to listen carefully and to act. The commissioner Mr. Okello's message was about coordination and closer collaboration between the Ministry, Woord en Daad and the local implementing partners. He called on for more support towards government of Uganda's efforts to cope with the increasing number of refugees. The minister encouraged the LEAD partners to promote, enable and empower refugees and host communities to have some skills to do business, competency to undertake some jobs, manage money and volatile environment in business. He called on the LEAD partners to link vocational skilling centers with Secondary schools and communities. These will empower both refugees and host communities to be productive. He committed to link the LEAD partners to existing government programs. The 12 LEAD partners were all in appreciation of Woord en Daad for the journey they have moved together so far and they are very positive of the impact the LEAD project will have on the refugees and host communities in Uganda. LEAD partners now feel fully prepared to start implementation come January 2025. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐨 YARID_Uganda! This week, we had the opportunity to showcase the incredible impact and success stories made possible through our partnership with the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. Together, we toured our programs, including our Early Childhood Development (ECD) center, which provides a safe space for children while their parents and caregivers attend YARID classes. We also met mothers and participants from our English for Adults, Tailoring, and Arts & Crafts classes, and visited Charlie, a remarkable business-woman who, with our support, now runs a thriving craft shop in Kampala. We are deeply grateful for the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation’s commitment to advancing refugee-led solutions, strengthening networks, and fostering lasting change, both locally and around the world. A heartfelt thank you to Barri Shorey (Senior Program Officer), Marcela Gonzalez (Program Officer), and Mubiru Lydia (Hilton Consultant in Uganda) for their time and insights during this week's visit.💙

  • Since the 2023 Global Refugee Forum, we have witnessed strong multi-stakeholder momentum around the #MeaningfulRefugeeParticipation pledge and its purpose: to centre refugees in decision-making at all levels, emphasizing diversity across age, gender, and disability.   We see great progress in all three areas for the pledge: inclusive decision making, accountability, and sustainable funding and resourcing.   𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Representation is often tokenistic. Funding barriers and legal restrictions still prevent full refugee engagement. We must all join a deeper shared commitment to dismantle these barriers and ensure refugees are not just included, but lead the way.   See full progress statement delivered by Meaningful Refugee Participation pledge signatories at the fourth quarterly informal briefing on the Global #RefugeeCompact:
