Just joined Investate! These past few months have been pretty busy with networking and I'm part of some great communities helping me work toward my tech goals. The Black Apprentice Network (BAN) and Rubin Poku have been there since the start, helping me learn about the industry. Through BAN, I got to check out events like the UBS and EY insight day. Outer Circle's also been great - thanks to Romario Ellis for welcoming me into that community, I've been to a few virtual events with OuterCircle and I wish to involve myself with more events and activities. Big thanks to Nana Agyapong and Lenon Muma for creating Investate, and to all these groups for their support. I'm the first in my family to step anywhere near central London 🏙️ As I reflect on the past year, I’ve found myself navigating two completely different environments. Balancing the structured corporate world with my past profession as an elite athlete and entrepreneur brought its challenges 🧩 On one hand, I balanced early morning and late evening training sessions, often lasting up to 3 hours, to perform my best in the most important competitions. On the other, I was navigating corporate life, with long commutes, a constant focus on learning even after the work day finished, and sitting for extended periods 😅 l'm excited to share some highlights to show that it’s possible to balance your passions and obligations: 🏊🏼♀️ Continued training 2-3x a week to upkeep my health and a credible athlete status 📋 Dedicated my efforts to coaching younger aspiring athletes on weekends, sharing my knowledge of techniques and racing skills. I was particularly motivated to support underrepresented groups, including ethnic minorities and women, to help increase their representation in competitive sports, especially at higher levels. I aimed to serve as the example of success in competitive swimming! 🎥 Had a rapidly growing apprenticeship TikTok page, building an amazing community and increasing my visibility since failing my A Levels in 2023. Reached ~2000 followers in 4 months before I switched my focus to LinkedIn 😶🌫️ Overcoming anxiety and imposter syndrome in professional networking events 🥳 Launching a mentorship programme to 10 highly motivated students out of ~250 applicants, with 7/10 securing multiple ACs! Waiting on the others 🤞🏽 🌐 Working as an apprenticeship ambassador with the Outer Circle 🤝 Extending my efforts to other apprenticeship communities like Not Going To Uni and Apprentadream As apprenticeships become a popular choice, seeking constructive advice and sharing experiences can make a big difference to our journeys. I'm grateful to be able to contribute to peoples journeys! I’m the first woman in my family free to pursue an education, excel in sports and work in my desired field. Transitioning from a competiting athlete/entrepreneur in the elite sport industry to a working professional was a difficult experience, but I wouldn’t change a thing But as I finish the year with tickets to the Usyk v Fury rematch in Saudi Arabia, the best advice I can give is: Stay true to who you are. Everyone balances duality to different extents but your authenticity is impressive Look after one another. Support yourself and others 🫶🏽
