As Glaucoma Awareness Month comes to an end, 18WS proudly highlights how our insourcing solutions have been instrumental in supporting Glaucoma care and reducing patient waiting lists. We partnered with a major NHS Trust in the South East region to address their growing waiting list for Glaucoma care. Over a period of 8 months, 18WS helped the Trust achieve a 68% reduction in 52+ weeks wait times, while completely eliminating 65+ weeks wait times. Coupled with a patient satisfaction rate of 98.7%, these results underscore our commitment to delivering efficient, patient-focused solutions that make a meaningful impact in elective care. Power to Patients: The UK government has announced an elective reform plan to reduce NHS waiting lists and times, aiming for an 18-week target by the end of the current Parliament. Central to the plan are upgrades to the NHS App, which will allow patients to: - Choose from a wider range of treatment providers, including independent options. - Book appointments and diagnostic tests at convenient locations and times. - Receive test results quickly and decide on the next steps, such as consultations or surgeries. The initiative aims to modernise NHS services, reduce inefficiencies, and give patients greater decision-making power. It also seeks to alleviate pressure on healthcare staff, enhance productivity, improve efficiency across the NHS, and ensure equal access to timely care across socio-economic groups. The definition of patient-first care 💜 We received this endoscopy feedback from one of our weekend clinics, which reflects our 18WS values and commitment to exceptional care. We understand the importance of kindness and respect, especially during gastro-endoscopic procedures, as they can sometimes be invasive and stressful. Feedback like this is inspiring and motivates our team to continue providing compassionate and high-quality care to the trusts we partner with. January marks Glaucoma Awareness Month. Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness, affecting over 700,000 people in the UK. Alarmingly, half of them are unaware they have the condition. If left undetected, glaucoma can silently steal a person's vision, with up to 40% of their eyesight lost before any symptoms are noticed. That's why regular eye examinations are crucial, as early detection and treatment can help prevent significant sight loss. Join 18WS in highlighting this sight-stealing condition. Help us raise awareness and encourage everyone to prioritise regular eye exams for early detection and prevention! The UK Prime Minister has unveiled a plan to reduce the NHS backlog in England, where 7.5 million people are waiting for treatment, with many delayed beyond the 18-week target. The strategy includes expanding community diagnostic centres and surgical hubs to deliver care outside hospitals. Patients will also gain more control and choice over their treatment through the NHS App, allowing them to book appointments and select care locations. Key targets include reducing the number of patients waiting over 18 weeks by 450,000 within a year and achieving 65% compliance with the 18-week standard by March 2026. While NHS leaders welcomed the ambition, concerns persist over the workforce and resources needed to implement the plan effectively. As trusted NHS partners in elective care recovery, 18WS stands ready and committed to supporting this initiative. With our proven expertise in insourcing and service delivery, we are prepared to contribute to reducing waiting lists and enhancing patient access to care.
