I'm incredibly proud to work for an employer who have introduced a 4-day week over our summer period. At Arts Students' Union we trialled a 4-day week period over two years, and found it to be greatly beneficial for staff and for the organisation in a multitude of ways, and made it a permanent change to our way of working. That's why it is so disappointing to hear Pensions Minister, Emma Reynolds, on Times Radio today so glibly dismiss companies and the Civil Service introducing a 4-day week out of hand (see below for the whole exchange). There is tons of evidence from the 4 Day Week Campaign that demonstrates the many positives of a 4-day working week, for workers and also for companies. Just a few examples: - Improved work-life balance: Employees can spend more time with family, pursuing hobbies, or exercising, feeling more in control of their lives. - Increased productivity: Employees feel more refreshed and energetic, while improving efficiency in working hours.  - Reduced costs: Companies can save on office running costs, and employees can save on commuting and lunch costs.  - Improved staff retention: Employees feel more satisfied and want to stay with the company that invests in staff and respects their time.  - Reduced carbon footprint: Fewer people commuting to work means fewer busy offices and decreased carbon emissions.  - Improved morale: Employees feel more motivated to work knowing their employer values their time and invests in a healthy work-life balance.  - Increased engagement: Companies can focus more on the output employees are producing. - Improved diversity and equality: 4-day week employers are very attractive workplaces. Parents may be able to share their roles more equally, and disabled staff may value the increased time to manage their conditions. Despite what Emma Reynolds believes, the future of work is to work smarter, not longer. I'm so glad that our organisation is leading the way, and I look forward to a future where many more employers embrace the opportunities of a 4-day week. #4dayweek #staffwellbeing #investinyourstaff

In case you missed it, it’s been a pretty big weekend for the 4-day week: ⁃ South Cambs Council were released from a Best Value Notice after their 4-day week trial proved a huge success ⁃ Labour opened the door for more councils to follow suit ⁃ Tube drivers won a reduced working week as part of their latest pay deal. It’s time for Councils to try it. It’s time for unions to negotiate it.
