Exciting developments are unfolding at Sport England! “Sport & activity generates over £100 billion in social value a year and relieves pressure on the NHS,” finds Sport England! Sport England has just published an updated national social value model for community sport and physical activity. The report highlights the incredible wellbeing benefits for adults, children, and young people who participate in or volunteer for sport, while also showcasing the broader savings to the health and social care system. This further demonstrates how essential sport and physical activity are to building a happy, healthy nation! VERY RELEVANT... As we have highlighted extensively during the last 2 years in several forums and events across the world, there is a growing demand globally, for policy makers, practitioners, and academics to measure the broad benefits of sport and physical activity at the individual, community, and population level. And whilst some benefits of physical activity and sport have been evidenced through research, often these benefits have focused on physical health, with limited high-quality evidence on the wellbeing and social benefits quantified at scale. This is due to significant research gaps but also due to a lack of global consistency of what benefits to assess and a lack of robust tools and methods to accurately measure associated outcomes. In response to the growing need to advocate for the broad benefits of Sport and Physical Activity, we urgently need to understand the social benefits and value of participation. As a result, we established back in October 2022 a "SROI Modeling Task Force" focused on delivering an International Consensus using Delphi methodology... In the "dream team" for this unique challenge: Professor Larissa Davies Dr Lindsey Reece Xián Mayo Dr. Ines Nieto (Senior Research Fellow), plus Dr. Andreia Santos (health economist) from WHO Physical Activity & Health Unit serving as external observer. And the first step on this challenging project was to complete a (massive) systematic review to inform the Delphi study. Delphi is now completed (and paper under review), and the 1st key main output from our SROI modelling project is finally published!!! We’re proud to share the incredible work of our COO, Deniece MacDonald. After 13 years of military service, Deniece’s commitment to supporting veterans remains unwavering. Recently, Deniece joined a group of volunteers, working alongside a skilled stonemason, to restore the graves of 12 local veterans in South Gloucestershire. The team didn’t just focus on physical restoration; they ensured each volunteer was provided with the life stories of the men buried there, bringing a personal connection to their efforts. The volunteers meticulously cleaned and helped restore each gravestone. As a final tribute, wildflowers were sown, adding a touch of life and remembrance to these resting places. These men, who served in WW1 and returned to spend their remaining days in this quiet part of the country, may not have been decorated with medals or held high ranks, but their contributions were no less significant. Their service, sacrifices, and dedication during one of history’s most difficult periods deserve to be honoured and remembered.   Thanks to funding from The Veterans' Foundation the organisers and the volunteers, this project will help preserve the memory of these soldiers and ensure their legacy lives on. 🚴♀️ Celebrating the impact of cycling across the UK! 🚴♂️ We're proud to have supported British Cycling’s Places to Ride programme, combining our technology, data and insight tools to help demonstrate impact, with the programme delivering 156 new and upgraded community cycling facilities nationwide. This initiative has inspired more people to ride, connected communities, and broken down barriers to participation—all while addressing inequalities and delivering measurable social value benefits. Manus Twomey, National Facilities Development Manager, British Cycling: "British Cycling’s Places to Ride programme was delighted to partner with 4GLOBAL in the monitoring and evaluation of the largest investment ever made in community cycling facilities. The 4GLOBAL team played the lead role in providing British Cycling with an online reporting platform, assisting in the collection of project performance data.
