“A Call for Integrity in Our Design Community” Hello LinkedIn family, A troubling trend has emerged that I feel we need to address openly. Beyond aggressive #recruitment practices, it’s disheartening to see both recruitment agencies and other design firms indiscriminately targeting nurtured talents. Even more concerning is that some recruitment companies send out CVs unsolicited—without any prior request or engagement from us—purely as a means to profit from these practices. This can lead to bizarre situations where employers “shockingly” receive the CVs of their own employees, Or friends in the industry randomly receive CVs of my team members! These actions not only undermine the efforts invested in team development but also reflect a lack of due diligence and respect for existing professional relationships. A striking example of this was when I received an impressive portfolio that was actually a collection of works from a friend’s company. The candidate had claimed all the projects as his own. Fortunately, I was familiar enough with the work to recognize the situation and called the owner of the company, who was quite shocked to see her work being misrepresented. This situation begs the question: - Shouldn’t recruiters perform their own due diligence before circulating a candidate’s portfolio? On other occasions, employees are offered double the salary for positions they are not yet developed enough to fill. Regrettably, these individuals often do not last in these roles, being used for a short period before being let go once the mismatch becomes evident. This cycle is not only damaging to the individuals but also to the firms and undermines the integrity of our profession. At #4SPACE, we uphold a policy of checking with current employers before engaging with potential #candidates who come to us or apply to a job, out of #respect and #professional #courtesy. We never #induce anyone’s #employees. It’s a practice I believe should be standard across our industry. I’m keen to hear your thoughts and experiences. - Have you faced similar issues with recruitment practices or from other firms within our industry? - How do you think we can encourage a more ethical, respectful approach to recruitment in our community? At 4SPACE design we took on dual roles, delivering both design expertise and comprehensive #projectmanagement to bring this canteen transformation to life. In this project, we focused on more than just the aesthetics. Our project management team was hands-on every step of the way, from coordinating with contractors and ensuring quality control to meeting Huawei’s high standards for safety and durability. By overseeing the project from concept through completion, we ensured seamless execution, budget alignment, and on-time delivery. The result? A sophisticated dining hub that caters specifically to Chinese cuisine, featuring a show kitchen and open cooking areas beside the buffet. This dynamic space brings the culinary experience to the forefront, allowing Huawei employees to enjoy a modern, vibrant dining environment right in their workplace. As part of the “Talking Walls: Reimagining the Bathroom Experience” challenge, eight talented design studios—Roar 4SPACE design, DZ Design | Interior Design Company, XBD Collective , Broadway Interiors, LLC, Swiss Bureau Interior Design & Build, AW Interiors Dubai and AKDESIGNO —have created unique bathroom concepts, and now it’s your turn to decide the winner of the People’s Choice Award. This season, UAE-based design studios competed under the mentorship of senior colleagues, transforming a 12 sqm space into striking bathroom concepts, each inspired by a randomly selected theme. From bold and expressive to minimal and elegant, these designs push the boundaries of creativity and will be officially unveiled at Downtown Design fair this November!
