🚨 Accace Enews Highlights – 17th December 2024 🚨 This week’s updates bring key insights for self-assessment taxpayers, businesses, and retail trends. Here's what you need to know: 🔹 Spread the Cost of Your Tax Bill with HMRC’s Time to Pay Facility HMRC is reminding self-assessment taxpayers that they can manage their tax payments with the Time to Pay plan. Over 15,000 taxpayers have already set up payment plans for the 2023/24 tax year, spreading their costs over monthly instalments. ➡️ File your tax return and pay by 31 January 2025. ➡️ Owe less than £30,000? Apply online with no need to contact HMRC. As Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s Director General for Customer Services, says: ‘Customers can set up their payment plan to suit their financial circumstances, spreading payments over up to 12 months.’ 🔹 Cash Usage on the Rise for the Second Year Running For the second year in a row, cash usage has increased in UK shops, with notes and coins now accounting for 20% of all transactions in 2023. Total transactions: 📈 21.0 billion (up from 19.6 billion). Average transaction value: 📉 £22.03 (down from £22.43). According to the British Retail Consortium (BRC), persistent inflation and the cost-of-living crisis have driven this trend, as many shoppers turn to cash for better budgeting. Let’s discuss: Have you noticed these trends in your business or day-to-day life? Share your thoughts below! ⬇️

Enews – 8 November 2024 This week’s Enews covers the rise in employers' National Insurance contributions (NICs) from the Autumn Budget, a reminder for self-assessment, and new fraud data. 🚨 Employer NICs Rise May Have Unintended Consequences The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) has warned that the increase in employer NICs by 1.2% from April 2025 could lead businesses to explore alternative arrangements like outsourcing or offshoring to mitigate the costs. The CIOT is concerned this could result in more cases of “false self-employment,” as businesses seek to avoid direct employment. Eleanor Meredith, Chair of CIOT’s Employment Taxes Committee, said: “The rise could lead businesses to shift workers into self-employment without fully understanding the risks.” ⏳ Under 100 Days Until Self-Assessment Deadline With less than 100 days until the self-assessment deadline on 31 January 2025, HMRC is reminding over 12 million taxpayers to file their returns. Early filing can help avoid last-minute stress and ensures a more accurate return. Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s Director General, said: “Start early to file your return on time and take advantage of online support to guide you.” 💸 Over £570 Million Stolen by Fraudsters in H1 2024 Fraudsters stole over £570 million in the first half of 2024, with 72% of authorised push payment fraud originating online. Unauthorised fraud, including card and remote banking fraud, cost £358 million, a 5% rise. Ben Donaldson from UK Finance said: “Fraud remains a significant threat, with severe financial and psychological impacts on victims.”

📅 Enews – 25 October 2024 This week’s Enews covers a potential Capital Gains Tax (CGT) hike in the Autumn Budget, the government’s Make Work Pay legislation, and updated HMRC guidance for employers. 🔹 💰 Raising CGT Rates Would Not Deter Investment, says IPPR The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) suggests that raising CGT rates won’t discourage investment. IPPR argues low CGT is not the best incentive for entrepreneurship. Instead, aligning CGT with income tax could close the £22 billion public finance gap, potentially raising £14 billion. 🔹 📉 FSB: Make Work Pay Bill Could Impact Employment and Growth The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) warns that the Make Work Pay Bill might hinder small employers, especially with provisions like day-one dismissal rights. Policy Chair Tina McKenzie calls for a rise in the Employment Allowance and a small business rebate for Statutory Sick Pay. 🔹 📑 Latest HMRC Guidance for Employers The October Employer Bulletin from HMRC includes key updates: 🎄 Early Christmas RTI reporting 💼 National Minimum Wage impact from salary sacrifice 🧾 New PAYE charge and data requirements 📋 2024 ABAB Report 🕰️ Employee retirement prep For tax assistance, please contact us! #taxupdates #investment #employment #budget
