This thought-provoking article is a must-read for anyone looking to better understand the experiences of #deaf employees and learn how to foster a more #inclusive work culture. Helen Brooker-Hunt discusses the challenges and how she overcame or transcended them. Reflecting that the industry was almost exclusively male at the start of her #career and is slowly becoming a place where anyone can #thrive, regardless of their abilities, with hard work, commitment, and #communication. Her hope being that the industry can become a more appealing option for the next generation. In her own words “In the meantime, for anyone considering entering this industry, my advice would be to simply be yourself, stay positive, curious, and flexible. Learn to work collaboratively with your team, strive to do your best on every project, and don’t be afraid to ask questions or embrace the constantly evolving learning environment.” https://lnkd.in/eTiYAeT4 Pages 46-47

Well, that’s another year almost over and I will be breaking up for Christmas after today… I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has supported me this year; it’s fair to say it’s been challenging but together we have achieved some fantastic things that individually and as a region we should be really proud of! We have worked on some incredibly diverse projects across multiple sectors this year, education, blue light, healthcare, housing and heritage, plus there are all the special ones that don’t really fit into a neat box, we have worked hard to ensure local subcontractors are used on projects, put on events with our partners like the #Sandwell Council’s “Meet the Buyer” event (next one is March 2026), we have worked with #Solihull and #Birmingham on Social Value initiatives including the FANTASTIC #MatchMyProject that allows Charities to register and request help and focuses social value where it’s really needed. Then there is the CWM Future Network #CWMBuildsFutures; a fantastic training and support initiative that evolved from work started on International Woman’s Day and is growing into something tremendous that I hope will have a lasting impact sharing skills and knowledge across major West Midlands Contractors and Local Authorities. There has been some amazing work carried out by one of our Contractor Partners along with the CITB and hosted by the Supply Chain Sustainability School on their platform, there are two complete training modules, one for HR and Managers and one for everyone highlighting the importance of understanding Neurodiversity and what we can all do to support each other. I would highly recommend doing both if you are already signed up for the SCSS just search for “Neurodiversity Awareness” or “Neurodiversity for Managers”. Working with our friends, partners and colleagues at the #NACF we have helped to shape policy and are working to not only share best practices but to discourage use of “Greenwashing” and “Social Value Washing” in the industry. There’s far too much to fit in any single post, but I have to say; I am not only proud of myself or what CWM has achieved or even what every single one of our brilliant Contractor Partners have done this year, but also what our Joint Commissioning Authorities #SandwellMBC, #SolihullMBC, #Acivico, and all of the wonderful clients who I get to work with, have done. “For the Public Sector by the Public Sector” (the NACF strapline) underpins everything we do at CWM so thank you all for allowing me to be part of taking that from a strap line to making it a reality. Oh, and if you have gotten this far… MERRY CHRISTMAS!! 🎅 #GFTomlinson, #Interclass, #Seddon, #SpellerMetcalfe #GallifordTry, #MorganSindall, #WillmottDixon

👋 Meet our People and Governance Director, Marcus Passant. Our vision at Acivico Group is to promote public #wellbeing and #sustainable development and central to this mission is our people. More than that, one of our four key objectives is to employ and nurture experts that are proud to work here. Marcus champions this objective by leading an industry leading HR team that punches well above its weight. His experience at the Legal Ombudsman and previously with Atkins, gives him a unique perspective on governance and what it takes to get the best out of people. Our Learning & Development work ranks amongst the best in the sector and has been shortlisted for three awards in the last 12 months alone, including the CIPD People Management Awards, PPMA Excellence in People Management Awards and the CN Workforce Awards. Not bad right? 🏆 Marcus and his team are currently developing Acivico's People Strategy for the next five years so watch this space for more innovation and thought capital! #buildingforgood #projectsthatmatter

What does a community-led approach to retrofit look like? Our Group Managing Director Marina Robertson MBA MRICS CIHM FCMI has been featured in the latest edition of The MJ, speaking about how the UK can reimagine retrofit. Showcasing Acivico Group's recent work in Balsall Heath as part of Local Authority Delivery Phase 3, the piece highlights the importance of the industry and funding bodies working in partnership with local communities by putting the trust in them to self-deliver. The work in Balsall Heath also cemented Acivico's belief in working on #projectsthatmatter, creating a lasting legacy for the region in terms of place-making and skills development. Take a look at the feature in the latest edition of The MJ below: #buildingforgood

What is #retrofit? Following the success of our large scale retrofit programme (LAD3) in Birmingham, we wanted to help grow the local #supplychain to help retain wealth in the #communities where we operate and enhance the #social value of our #sustainability projects. Associate Director Ying Man had the vision to help local #SME contractors navigate some of the barriers to entry in the #retrofit market. One of the outputs from this work is a collaboration with Birmingham City Council and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to produce a series of videos to encourage more contractors to enter the retrofit market. Here is the first instalment of a series of videos, to firstly explain what retrofit is and why we should be doing more to address the challenge of our ageing #housing stock. Comment to stay in touch with future developments and our next series of workshops.
