This week, we co-hosted an event on climate and sustainability in Parliament with our fellow National Academies: The British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering and The Royal Society. We were delighted to share how the National Academies can provide Parliamentarians and policy makers with expert policy advice and access to a diverse network of the UK’s leading researchers, to tackle intersectional issues such as climate change. We used this opportunity to engage parliamentarians on the impacts of climate change on health, with a focus on the opportunity to create a more environmentally friendly NHS. Special thank you to Dr Amy Booth for joining us and sharing her research with attendees. 🔗 Read our policy positions on climate and health in our flagship report: https://lnkd.in/eAdjgWCQ 🔗 See how we are connecting the next generation of climate and health researchers across the UK and USA in our project with the National Academy of Medicine: https://lnkd.in/eKyNU_u2 #Climate #ClimateChange #Sustainability #Health #NHS

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing problem - and we know enough to act. This year, an Academy and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) policy workshop convened experts from India and the UK, identifying the following areas where action against AMR should be intensified: ✅ Embed AMR as part of the broader public health agenda 🤝 Create empowered coordinating structures spanning sectors at subnational, national, and international levels 💊 Develop a national regulatory framework to ensure appropriate use of antimicrobials in humans and animals 🏥 Empower primary healthcare and communities to take increased action against AMR 🐔 Strengthen veterinary support Four priority research areas were also established: 🔬 Understand the origins and spread of AMR microbes within the #OneHealth framework 🌐 Develop a systems-based analysis to identify potential policy levers for AMR action 💷 Integrate more economic modelling into AMR frameworks to inform research 🔬 Target research to support behavioural change aimed at reducing routine antimicrobial use Read more in our policy brief 👇 https://bit.ly/4fZ26uj #WAAW #AMR #AntimicrobialResistance
