On Thursday, I had the privilege of attending the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Industry and SME Roadshow Event for the East Midlands at the beautiful Nottingham Trent University Clifton Campus. This event, designed for MedTech innovators and #SMEs, provided a fantastic opportunity to explore the regional NIHR infrastructure and discover the numerous organisations dedicated to supporting their journey to market. I was thoroughly impressed by the extensive support available in the #EastMidlands NIHR region, from innovation research and recruitment to funding, clinical trials, research delivery management, and research regulatory support. The tour of three state-of-the-art facilities MTIF (Medical Technologies Innovation Facility), MEDRG (Medical Engineering Design Research Group), and HAP (Health & Allied Professions)—was a marvellous treat, showcasing how the Midlands is rapidly becoming a thriving hub for #MedTech. It was great to meet you Christian Hehir and hear about your wonderful innovation. All the Best! As a Compliance Analyst, empowering #innovators and SMEs is one of the core values I’ve picked up at Acorn Compliance. It was truly rewarding to help break down barriers and demystify compliance and regulations, leaving participants inspired and eager to learn more about the NHS procurement route.

🏨 Reflecting on GIANT Health 2024: Insights on AI, Femtech, and Data in Healthcare I can't believe it has already been a week since I had the chance to attend the GIANT Health conference. The event was packed with valuable insights from those in industry and clinicians on the frontline, on everything from AI and Femtech to compliance and the future path of healthcare. Here are my key takeaways: 👯♀️ The future of healthcare is female: Did you know that 41% of UK medical schools don’t include mandatory menopause education, and only 2% of healthcare research funding goes to women’s health? These facts highlight the disparities in women’s health, but the Women’s HealthTech Show also showcased those making efforts to address this. The Femtech industry is expected to reach $60bn by 2027, yet there’s still a major gap in representative data. It’s clear that more research, better data, and inclusive AI are needed, and I’m excited to see the progress being made. 🦺 Rules and regulations: It's a theme that keeps coming up but for good reason - ultimately any software in healthcare needs to be safe, and needs to be trusted. Anything that makes that process easier has to be a good thing, which is exactly what they're doing at Acorn Compliance. 🧠 AI in Healthcare: AI has the power to truly transform patient journeys every step of the way, whether it’s through personalised risk assessments or AI-assisted surgeries. One idea that really stuck with me is using AI to shift clinicians from being data capturers to data validators. This would save crucial time and allow clinicians to focus more on what matters—turning data into meaningful care. Side note - a personal highlight for me was the workshop delivered by Keith Grimes on how to harness large language models through prompt engineering. I've probably been spending a bit too much time on chatGPT trying to perfect this recently. As someone with a background in clinical medicine and a passion for digital health and AI, I’m eager to dive deeper into these areas, especially in Femtech and AI-driven solutions that make healthcare more inclusive and efficient.
