David Sowrey, Managing Director, Acrisure Re International, recently shared his insights with Ben Dyson at S&P Global in a preview of the January 1, 2025 renewals. For the U.S. property-catastrophe market (excluding hurricane-prone Florida), David noted that "we're seeing flat [rates] on the loss-affected layers." He also highlighted how price pressure on reinsurers is coming from all sides, with "everyone pushing harder," not just the large national insurers in the U.S. In Canada, the picture looks different. Following a challenging year with catastrophic flooding, fires, hailstorms, and Hurricane Debby, David described 2024 as Canada’s "worst cat year ever."
