We work to inspire and empower young people aged 12-18 to become the next generation of environmental leaders.
About us
About Us Action for Conservation is a UK youth environmental action charity (no. 1157297) that inspires and empowers young people aged 12-18, from diverse backgrounds across the UK, to become the next generation of environmental leaders. To us, being a ‘conservationist’ or ‘environmentalist' doesn't just mean following a career as a field biologist or a campaigner. We believe that a passion for nature can flow through anyone's life, whatever their day-job. We inspire today's young people to a long-term belief in the wonder of the natural world, which will shape their dreams and actions however their life turns out. Over the last two years, we've been lucky enough to work alongside an incredibly talented photographer, Andy Pilsbury, as part of the #WeFeedtheUK project with The Gaia Foundation and the team at the Penpont Estate. 🌿 Excitingly, Andy's portrait of Youth Leadership Group member Gwion has been shortlisted by The British Journal of Photography in this year's Portrait Of Britain, volume 7. 🏆 The winners will see their work displayed across the country in 2025 on Jcdecaux screens. #PortraitofBritain is a nationwide exhibition that turns the country’s familiar signs into an exhibition celebrating the diverse and unique heritage of modern Britain. See if you can spot these amazing photographs while you're out and about this year! 🔎 See the shortlist ➡️ https://buff.ly/40hdLhQ Find out more about Andy's work ➡️ https://buff.ly/40bT9rw 💬 Andy said of the experience, "Photographing Gwion was particularly significant to me because of his intrinsic connection to the area. He embodies the essence of the landscape, symbolising the project’s commitment to grounding its efforts in the local community. Capturing his portrait was an effort to highlight the importance of local involvement in environmental restoration and to showcase the faces behind these transformative initiatives. Gwion’s portrait was made during a sheep tuberculosis workshop led by the Davies family and tells a story of dedication, hope and the power of collective action. It serves as a visual testament to the critical role that local youth play in shaping a sustainable future, reinforcing the message that true environmental change is rooted in the collaboration between generations and the active participation of those who call the land home.” #photography #youthleader #portraitphotography #bjp #AndyPilsbury
