As Dr James Tibenderana says, funding is critical in overcoming the twin climate and health crises. Yet year after year, the UK fails to meet its finance commitments, plunging families on the frontlines deeper into suffering. Let's demand #WordsIntoAction 👉bit.ly/3Z7tzU0

📢 #WordsIntoAction: Our Campaign Letter ✉️ When it comes to climate, the UK talks a good game. But actions speak louder than words. In reality, it is part of a repeated failure to pay for the climate and health crises unfolding across the globe. We saw this most recently at #COP29, when high-income countries stumped up a meagre $300bn a year - well short of the $1.3tr low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) were pushing for. We say enough is enough. As a global health network, we see first-hand the myriad impacts of this negligence on human health; from climate-induced floods causing rises in waterborne disease, to heatwaves worsening mental health conditions. It's time for the UK to put its money where its mouth is. The letter below outlines our position. Sign your name and demand #WordsIntoAction 👉 bit.ly/3Z7tzU0

💬 "The water I bathe in causes my skin to get very dry and I often get blisters. The blisters sometimes get so dry that they bleed." Bangladesh has suffered multiple cyclones, climate-induced floods and periods of extreme heat in recent years. In the south, where Shyamoli Munda lives, clean water can disappear overnight, leaving no choice but to use dirty ponds. "I have to wash my hair every day. If I don’t it itches." Shyamoli and her community are suffering from a crisis they did not create. For centuries, high-income countries like the UK have decimated public and planetary health, but refused to pay up. We say enough is enough. Sign our letter calling on the UK Government to urgently address climate-health funding gaps. Let's demand #WordsIntoAction 👉bit.ly/3Z7tzU0

Dr. Mesbah Rahman, a Gastroenterologist practicing in Swansea, is bridging worlds and transforming lives. Born and trained in Bangladesh, Mesbah came to the UK in 1990 and has since worked in both England and Wales. Since 2012, Dr. Rahman has returned to his birthplace annually, leading hands-on training courses in endoscopy and creating dynamic partnerships between organisations like the Bangladesh Society, British Society of Gastroenterology, and Swansea Bay University Health Board. Dr. Rahman reminds us that collaboration benefits everyone: “It is a two-way process,” he says, highlighting lessons from resource-constrained environments that proved invaluable during the Covid-19 pandemic. 💡 Be inspired by Dr. Rahman’s story and others in our Voices of the Experts in Our Midst report.
