Thank you to all at Ajman University CCEE for taking part in Fiona Lennoxsmith’s workshop. Your contributions were really valuable and will help us to shape the Leadership Framework. We hope you enjoyed it, and we hope it helps with conversations around what it means to lead within (and across) your institution and the wider HE landscape. A big thank you to Tizreena Ismail for making the visit special. It was a privilege to meet the senior team and hear all about the growth of Ajman since 1988. It’s wonderful that Advance HE can play a part in this, however big or small 😊 We picked a great day for the visit didn’t we? 🐪

Following our launch of the Framework for Leading in Higher Education, Romy Lawson, Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor at Flinders University in Australia, writes about how leadership approaches are transforming, particularly in higher education. She says that traditional top-down leadership models are giving way to leader-leader models, where decision-making is delegated to where information originates. Romy highlights four essential mindsets for modern leaders: The power of doubt - being willing to question decisions and change course when needed Embracing incompleteness - acknowledging limitations and building complementary teams True engagement - prioritising meaningful dialogue over one-way broadcasting Empowerment - giving people the tools and authority to solve their own challenges She says the new Framework for Leading in Higher Education helps to reposition leadership to this more contemporary perspective.
