Association for European Transport (AET) FREE HYBRID SEMINAR Integrating transport step by step: From ticketing to interoperable mobility Join us online or in-venue at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto Thursday 6 March 2025, 14.00-15.30 WET & GMT (15.00-16.30 CET) Integrating transport step by step: From ticketing to interoperable mobility The design of multimodal transport networks, intermodal mobility services, integrated trip planners, and other solutions are available in many forms, and promote transport integration from different perspectives of the transport ecosystem. However, a real integration is only possible when other types of integration is achieved. Service integration can only occur when information, ticketing solutions, and service offerings are integrated. The concept of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) recognises that mobility services depend on more than an integrated transport infrastructure and operations. During this hybrid seminar, we will discuss the integration of other aspects of mobility services that enable a seamless mobility experience by focusing on both technology and business aspects of integration, namely, ticketing, pricing, and first and last mile services. Join us online, or in-venue at: Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, Portugal Want to join us online? The AET Transport and Mobility Forum webinars are FREE to attend and are hosted on the Zoom platform. Want to join the live audience in Porto? 🏅 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 - 𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 🚌 🚇 Last week, I had the opportunity of attending the TMF Webinar – Transport Planning for the Paris Olympics 2024, promoted by Association for European Transport (AET) in collaboration with Ile-De-France Mobilités (Public Transport Authority for the Paris Region). Led by Nicolas Boichon, the webinar was an incredible learning opportunity about the meticulous planning behind one of the most complex mobility operations ever undertaken. 🚀 Here are some insights that truly impressed me: 1️⃣ Years of Preparation & Collaboration 𝟒 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 among all stakeholders, ensuring a deep understanding of roles, expectations, and real-time response capabilities. 2️⃣ Contingency & Scenario Testing 𝟏𝟐𝟎 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐝 in detail to prepare for any possible disruption. 3️⃣ Enhanced Transport Services & Accessibility 🚆 +𝟏𝟓% 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 🚌 𝟓𝟑𝟎 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝟔𝟔𝟓 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 for quick response operations ♿️ 𝟏,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐬 (up from 200) to serve wheelchair spectators, with designated drop-off areas and parking near venues. 4️⃣ Tech & Digital Solutions Creation of a designated Paris 2024 Public Transport App and Collaboration with Google Maps and other Commercial routing APPS to ensure the information was consistent across platforms. 5️⃣ Cycling & Park & Ride 🚴♀️ 𝟒𝟏𝟓 𝐤𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 specifically for the Games. 🅿️ 𝟐𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤 & 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞 spaces were made available, with 47 facilities strategically located near public transport hubs. Pre-booking was essential, and communication guided spectators to the most suitable options for each venue. 6️⃣ Unified Identity & Communication The use of pink and purple colors gave the event a consistent visual identity, with “𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦, 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫” to align volunteers, staff, and stakeholders. Information on public transport was made available at venues to help spectators get home after events. 📊 Results speak for themselves: 𝟖𝟎% 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭, with a minimal reliance on private cars! 💡How vital collaboration, technology, and contingency planning are for large-scale events. Paris 2024 set a new standard for transport planning. What do you think is the most important factor in ensuring successful mobility during major events? #Paris2024 #MobilityPlanning #TransportInnovation #SustainableMobility #PublicTransport

Additionally, consider joining the Association of European Transport (AET)—an organization that continues to shape the future of sustainable transport solutions. Call for Papers: 2025 European Transport Conference (ETC)  17–19 September 2025 | Antwerp, Belgium Abstract Deadline: 7 February 2025 Reflecting on my past experiences at ETC and as an AET member, here’s why I believe this conference is exceptional: ✅ Diverse Participation: ETC welcomes academics, consultants, policymakers, practitioners, and private sector leaders, fostering a holistic approach to transportation challenges. ✅ Collaborative Platform: The conference is a hub for knowledge exchange, innovative solutions, and cutting-edge research findings from a variety of transportation disciplines. ✅ Support for Young Researchers: Special sessions provide master's and PhD researchers the opportunity to present their work, gain feedback, and move toward publication. ✅ Extensive Resources: AET members have access to a rich database of past conference papers and regular webinars through the Transport Mobility Forum.
