A multinational, omnichannel cosmetics retailer was finding that products were consistently under- or over-stocked in certain territories. Lost sales and extra transporation costs were dramatically diminishing their margins, so to protect their profits, they needed to know what to stock, when and where. We developed a Machine Learning (ML) Predictive Analytics model to assess customer buying habits, sales, and inventory in order to reliably forecast demand. Buyers using the model in various territories had significantly reduced levels and instances of over- and under-stock, in ecommerce warehouses and in physical retail settings. Data and machine learning have created guardrails for buyers, and the reduction in overspend and missed sales opportunities has meant have paid for the cost of running the ML model. Happy Friday! ... As you close off for the weekend, how has your 2025 kicked off? For me, I have: 🏢 Been to the Agile offices to start the week meeting colleagues I hadn't met and getting to know them which was great 🛫 Watched my son take off in his new career heading to Belfast to immerse himself in the world of software 🥶 Walked the dogs in freezing weather and got pulled along as if I was on jet ski's! 📺 Started watching Traitors when I said I wouldn't, but I did.... and now I'm hooked! 📊 Met some great customers who are keen to engage with Agile with their data strategies, integrations etc and I have 🩷'd these discussions and the variation of challenges that Agile can help with across different business sectors So, if your organisation is one that wants to make this year transformational, data will be at the heart of that project, remember: 👉 Tools are nothing without strategy 👉 Long, cumbersome projects cannot keep up with commercial conditions. Stay nimble. 👉 The value of transformation should not come only at the end of a project. The Financial Times reported that in 2024, investment in AI-powered medical note-taking apps doubled. (Via PYMNTS) The opportunity is revolutionary, with enormous potential for improved patient interaction, more detailed notes, and enhanced recognition of patterns in medical data. However, that comes with the obvious security risk. The notes from GP consultations contain deeply intimate and highly sensitive information, and with AI-powered notes, there will be even more of that data on systems, with new vulnerabilities. GPs are already using AI in their consultations, but the continued success and viability of the tools will rely on clear, strategic, security and governance. AI is an incredibly enthusiastic learner. Once you teach it something, it takes that knowledge and applies it zealously. With that in mind, you need to be sure that what you think you are teaching your AI is what you are actually teaching it. If the AI interprets the training data in a different way than you do, it could be basing decisions on the wrong idea, which would not only undermine its purpose, but could also put you at serious regulatory risk.
