Consultancy in Transport Safety, Data & Behaviour Change
About us
Agilysis was setup by an experienced team with a background in transport safety. Through our work with Road Safety Analysis (an associated company) all of us gained an incredible amount of experience in areas of analytics, networks, data visualisation, evaluation, intervention design, and behaviour change. Although Agilysis only formed in 2017 the team have been together for a long time (around 18 years). Our shared history and associated companies provides great strength and experience. Agilysis is the lead delivery vehicle to products and services, especially when it comes to research, evaluation, reporting and analytics. Our focus is not limited to a narrow sector and we are growing our expertise in public health, transport, and behaviour change. As both researchers and practitioners in social marketing we are in a perfect position to act as translators for our clients. We are absolutely focused on understanding ‘what works’, using evidence from all available data sources, as well as published research. We also understand the practical requirements of those delivering training, campaigns and public relations exercises. Our principles are therefore directed towards ensuring that realistic, effective interventions can deliver outputs and outcomes for clients.

We have supported Transport Scotland in their consultation on speed limits for rural roads by undertaking a 'Scale of Change' analysis to review current speeds and traffic flows across their network. To do this we used data from the Speed Compliance Tool based on road network data from Ordnance Survey, traffic speeds from Basemap and speed limits from Insight Warehouse Limited. We then reviewed what percentage of traffic on various road classes is currently exceeding 50mph (the proposed new limit). It is already well-understood that traffic speeds are low across many of our rural roads and even on high-flow 'fast' roads, speeds are often nowhere near the existing national speed limit (NSL) of 60mph. The second image shows the entire single-carriageway network subject to the NSL in Aberdeenshire with average and 85th percentile speeds at different times of day. An example is also shown of a report produced for a single road section with one of the highest average speeds and even here, they are well below the current limit. Credit to the team including Suzanne Coles, Ella Jones, Muhammad Osama khan and Richard Owen who worked on the report earlier in the year. Our Speed Compliance Tool has proved phenomenally popular with authorities and police forces who want to understand vehicle speeds on their road networks without having to commission expensive surveys. This report shows that the data can be used in many different ways to inform policy and strategy to improve road safety.

Join us in extending a warm welcome to three talented professionals, each bringing a wealth of experience and expertise in road safety, transport research, and data-driven insights, to our growing team. Nathan Harpham has been working in road transport consultancy since 2020, focussing on communicating actionable insight from data for clients both in the UK and internationally. He has led and contributed to a wide variety of projects including the multi-million-pound HelmUK project (the UK’s first on-road platooning trials) and the design and implementation of a model simulating the impact of safety measures on KSIs for National Highways’ Roads to Zero Harm project. Dr Scott R. Fox has over a decade of experience in road safety and transport research, contributing to major projects influencing national policies. During his PhD, Scott examined how factors like distraction and passenger presence impact drivers’ hazard perception and collision risk, allowing him to explore hazard perception differences between human drivers and autonomous vehicle capabilities. Dr Özgün Özkan is an experienced researcher of Behavioural and Traffic Psychology. Özgün is particularly interested in human factors and user experience, the design and evaluation of behavioural change interventions, the improvement of safety in the traffic environment and differences in traffic culture across countries.
