Almost a year ago we were awarded funding from the AIM - Association of Independent Museums's Pilgrim Trust Remedial Conservation Grant to restore and preserve two large watercolours by Hubert Coutts (Tucker). After spending many months away for conservation, these artworks have now been returned to The Armitt and are ready to be displayed in 2025. Here's a preview of before and after treatment... 1. Cartmel Priory, before conservation - with foxing and brown staining on the watercolour and damage to the frame. 2. Cartmel Priory, after conservation - reduction of foxing and staining and retouchings to frame. 3. Skye, before conservation - dirt had covered the frame and surface of the painting, foxing apparent and damage to the frame. 4. Skye, after conservation - surface of watercolour and frame cleaned with retouching to frame.
