The world is witnessing an unprecedented displacement crisis – and the climate crisis is a big part of that. What can philanthropy do? 🌏 Agriculture already consumes 40% of Earth’s land. As demand for food, fuel, and fiber grows, it competes with important efforts to protect and restore ecosystems. Meanwhile, the food system must adapt to feed 10 billion people by 2050 - without expanding its footprint. But a single-issue approach to food production and land use can create unintended consequences. 🐄 For example, livestock production methods that improve animal welfare can also increase carbon emissions. Thus, reducing consumer demand for animal-based protein must be a key part of the solution as well. With few ‘win-win-win’ solutions available, a systems approach is needed. Coolfood is part of the World Resources Institute's framework to ensure our food, land, and water solutions work for everyone.
