"Pickleball, and padel for matter, should not be under the purview of the LTA" Recently, Unofficial Partner invited me on to one of their upcoming #podcast episodes to understand the history, pros, cons and future of #padel under the governance of the UK's LTA. It should surprise no one who knows me or follows me, that I am against this status quo. It is not personal, it is organisational. While there is some progress and benefits, I believe that the LTA is simply not focused, nimble, transparent and ambitious enough to keep hold of padel. The numbers to date are underwhelming, the future targets even more so, and countries like Holland and Belgium (already way ahead of the #UnitedKingdom) are accelerating into the distance, let alone more established countries like Portugal or Sweden. Across multiple metrics. This situation has been cast into sharper focus as PickleballEngland tries to fend off the LTA, who have decided that they can "work wonders" for pickleball in the UK as well. I know many #pickleball stakeholders are working, strategising, lobbying and communicating hard to maintain control of their sport. I wish them luck as Sport England and the other Home Nation Sports Councils decide a fate for that sport in the coming weeks. Basketball doesn't run netball. Tennis doesn't run table tennis. Hockey doesn't run ice hockey. Any economies of scale that may have existed in the past are no longer a reality in today's sporting landscape, in the UK or worldwide. Thanks Richard Gillis for the opportunity to share my thoughts and opinions. And thanks Karen Mitchell for the engaging conversation. https://lnkd.in/eT5XrqWU

With Season 1 wrapped up a few weeks ago, and a new Season 2 launching in a few weeks time, I wanted to take stock, hear the thoughts of my audience and hopefully adapt to feedback and preferences. To that end, please find attached in the first comment below, a link to a survey about Season 1. Please do take the time to answer these questions (there are less than 10!) and be as frank and blunt and honest as you can be. No holds barred! As I have said on each episode, I want to make sure that the podcast meets the needs of the business stakeholders in the global padel space. I hope you will share your preferences with me. Thanks all for your time and honesty.

Time to see what All The Angles listeners want to hear about next. We did #Miami a few weeks back. But other parts of the #US are doing their bit to contribute to the #American #padel story. So would love to hear from listeners: which part of the US should we focus on next in our upcoming #USpadel episode? Have your say...

Here, with Episode 14 ends Season 1 of All The Angles. Roger Mitchell calls for #padel to embrace the power and reach of YouTube #contentcreators, endemic and non, to generate cut through to new potential players and fans. We will take a week or two off of making video episodes before we come back with Season 2. In the meantime, we will try to gain insights from you our listeners to see if and how you can guide our evolving Season 2. Stay tuned and thanks so much for your time, attention and investment in the padel ecosystem, wherever you are listening from.

ICYMI yesterday, our Outsiders View on #Padel episode is out. Eben Novy-Williams of Sportico flags that ecosystems that expect investor-led projects and brands to nourish the grassroots may face challenges as the short-term motives of the former don't fully dovetail with the long-term thinking of the latter. Who needs to step in? Have they? (Website at end of clip)

🚨🚨🚨 EPISODE 14: OUTSIDER VIEW ON PADEL EPISODE READY!!! 🚨🚨🚨 What do you get, what do you learn, when you give two heavyweight #sportsindustry experts a top line summary of where #padel is today, a forum to ask questions, and an opportunity to opine on what padel is and what it can be in the future? A different #perspective. A cold view divorced from the investment, momentum and frothiness that exists inside the ecosystem. The purpose for us was not to pour cold water on anyone or anything for the sake of it. The purpose was to get some speculation that can deliver food for thought, focus and action. Padel hasn't got it all figured out. We all know there are areas that need addressing. Did Roger Mitchell and Eben Novy-Williams see it all clearly? Did they spot the exposed flanks? Did they reach fair conclusions? Did they miss anything? Did they ask the wrong questions? You tell me. You tell us. https://lnkd.in/ehD9peNy

Tomorrow's episode is going to be something different. An #experiment. Likely to be our most commented on #episode I would guess... When you work in an #ecosystem, it is easy to get caught up in the buzz, hype, excitement, cheerleading etc. Sometimes it is important to find a way to get an #externalperspective. An #outsider's view. To provide balance, context and a #realitycheck. That is what we will do tomorrow. We got two credible, experienced observers and participators in the wider international #sportsbusiness to give their take on the sport of #padel, but as outsiders. What is their reaction? What do they find encouraging? What do they find troubling? Take a listen tomorrow. I will be interested to see what #padelinsiders think about what is said on the episode.

We forgot to put an ICYMI out on Friday. Don't you make the same mistake. Don't forget to download last week's #episode on #Miami and #padel in the #USA. Marcus Jansson-Ryan talks about the dos and don'ts of putting together and presenting #investmentdecks in this exciting market. Full episode and previous ones at alltheangles.biz

ICYMI yesterday, Episode 13 on #padel in #Miami and the #US is out The US is going through what Julian Wortelboer calls a "tsunami", with #enthusiasm and #entrepreneurship everywhere. But he issues a warning. Building the #infrastructure is the "easy part". The key to padel is its #community. Finding the right managers, coaches, members, ideas and mix is the key to keep people coming and coming back. That is where #success lies. #padelbiz #padelbusiness #sportsbiz #sportbusiness #USpadel #padelinamerica
