Did any of your trees crack under the pressure of the storm last weekend? Was it the ones you expected? Like trees, you can’t protect your employees from every storm but you can help prevent them falling over. 📚 Provide tools and training for managing stress 😔 Regularly check on individuals’ mental wellbeing 💖 Have trained people employees can talk to 🗣️ Normalise opening up about mental health We hope you are all safe and well after the weekend both physically and mentally.

This week the government unveiled its ‘Get Britain Working’ White Paper and supporting people with mental health conditions through the NHS and employers is seen as a key priority. The White Paper revealed that: 😔 Poor mental health is one of the most prevalent primary causes of long-term sickness along with musculoskeletal conditions and cardiovascular disease. 📈 The number of workers aged 16 to 34 who report that their mental health limits the work they can do has increased more than four-fold over the past decade. 🧡 Mental health is now the leading work limiting health condition among those aged 44 and younger. The government is aiming to: 🗣️ Expand access to NHS Talking Therapies, increasing the number of people completing courses of treatment by 384,000. 🗨️ Offer employment support in 99% of NHS Talking Therapies services ⬆️ Increase access to Individual Placement Support for people with severe mental illness. This programme provides support before, during and after a placement in paid employment. The role of employers in creating and maintaining healthy and inclusive workplaces is going to be looked at in an independent review. Whilst mental health is not directly mentioned the review aims to find solutions to: 💜 improving recruitment and retention of disabled people and people with health conditions 💗 preventing people becoming unwell at work and better supporting good, healthy workplaces 💙 undertaking early intervention for sickness absence and increasing returns to work We are going be very interested in the outcomes of the review which is due to be finalised in the Summer. Hopefully it will help rather than hinder employers who are looking to improve employee wellbeing. #getbritainworking #healthyworkplaces #mentalhealth https://lnkd.in/es3i8TX4

Thank you to everyone who participated in the poll on key leadership skills for 2025. Here are the results: 📊 Supporting team wellbeing was the top choice, with 38% of votes. 📊 Conflict management and Creating a coaching culture tied at 23% each. 📊 Other garnered 15%, please comment with additional areas of focus. Interestingly, supporting team wellbeing remains front and centre. In a time of increasing demands, the risk of burnout and ongoing change, fostering a wellbeing culture where teams feel engaged, valued and genuinely supported has never been more crucial. The equal emphasis on conflict management and coaching reflects a desire to navigate challenges effectively and empower our teams to grow. 🪴 What steps have you taken to prioritise team wellbeing or build coaching into your leadership style? ✅ How can we ensure that wellbeing initiatives are impactful and sustainable, rather than a tick-box exercise? Let’s continue the conversation #LeadershipDevelopment #FutureOfWork #ConflictManagement #Coaching #Wellbeing Altruist Enterprises

Is it ever OK to show emotion at work? Angry or tearful outbursts are often a result of an individual dealing with an overwhelming build-up of stress but how can businesses minimise the impact? Showing emotion is not wrong but if the workplace doesn’t have a wellbeing culture there is a risk that key employees leave and motivation is adversely affected. Organisations need to be proactive: 👩💼 Encourage talking openly about mental wellbeing 🗣️ Have mechanisms which allow employees to consult someone confidentially e.g. Mental Health First Aiders or an EAP 📈 Offer opportunities to help individuals manage stress and build resilience 🗨️ Ensure managers are having regular 1:1s with team members which discuss wellbeing 📚 Communicate what help is available and how to access it A wellbeing culture doesn’t happen overnight but businesses that work at it are likely to retain talent and increase productivity. Can you share any tips on how to support employee wellbeing and the positive impact it has had in your workplace? #mentalwellbeing #timetotalk #emotion

I was lucky enough to attend the TAG Network Midlands Limited female founders breakfast this morning where Kameese D. talked about how her daughter inspired her to found Nylahs Naturals . In a refreshing change to the usual narrative, she told us about her 'failures' journey which taught her how to be successful. My 'failure' to capture her with her eyes open will teach me to take more than one photo! Laura Salter from Forvis Mazars Group and Emily Sharples from Trowers & Hamlins talked finance & law respectively. It was great to hear that discussions start with talking about a founder's emotional connection to the business and their objectives not just money and legislation. Thanks to Denise Morris who got us warmed up despite the cold and Natalie Moustache at Eversheds Sutherland for getting a lovely breakfast.

Growing or sponsoring Movember moustaches provides a great platform for workplaces to encourage talking about health and wellbeing. Movember started as a bet between friends in Australia in 2003. 21 years later Movember is a global movement which raises awareness and funds projects for: · Mental health and suicide prevention · Prostate Cancer · Testicular Cancer Movember can be a fun way of raising awareness and starting conversations around men’s health in the workplace. You could: 🙂 Organise sponsorship for employees who can grow moustaches 👩💼 Hold a day where everyone wears a moustache and donates to Movember 🗣️ Encourage people to talk about why @Movember matters 💙 Promote health and wellbeing initiatives which are not ‘just for Movember’ 🧑💼 Share stories from male employees who have experienced health issues It’s important to get men talking and the @Movember movement can kickstart the conversation.
