Coflore - The Realistic Flow Alternative to Production-Scale Batch Chemical Manufacturing
About us
AM Technology designs and manufactures continuous flow reactors for the fine chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Our Coflore® range of flow reactors are actively mixed and multi-stage; a combination that decouples mixing and plug flow from residence time through novel reactor designs that also facilitate productivity, versatility, and scalability at degrees previously considered unique to batch manufacture. By combining attributes from batch and flow technologies, Coflore flow reactors offer a route to manufacture which is as versatile and productive as batch, whilst maintaining the efficiencies of flow. Residence times from seconds to hours are interchangeable and controlled by the flow rate of the pump, without compromising mixing or plug flow performance, and without the need for configurational changes or add-ons to the reactor. Our flow reactors are compatible with all types of reaction media; liquid, liquid-liquid, solid-liquid, liquid-gas, and solid-liquid-gas, producing up to thousands of tonnes of material per year from a single reactor. The entire Coflore flow reactor range exhibits excellent solids-handling capabilities for slurries with solids up 50% w/w.

Custom vs. Modular Fabrication… Which is right for you? 🤔 If you’re looking to tailor flow chemistry principles for your specific needs, then a custom project is ideal. If you’re looking for a cost-effective, scalable and pre-engineered set-up, then modular fabrication will suit. There are advantages of both options, which is right for you will depend on your current and future production requirements. Get in touch with our Flow Chemists to kick-start your journey with flow! 🚀 Combined Cooling-Antisolvent Crystallisation of Drug Substances... Purdue University conducted a study which leveraged the Coflore Agitated Cell Reactor (ACR) as their researchers explored methods for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of drug crystallisation processes. The team significantly improved drug purity and yield by integrating the cooling and antisolvent crystallisation processes within the Coflore ACR. The ACR successfully combined these two crystallisation techniques into a singular continuous reaction stream, through efficient mixing and precise control. Through better reaction control, the drug development and discovery industry can speed up the production of higher-quality crystals. 📄 Read the full publication, and others, here https://lnkd.in/ecTmQF9n #pharmaceuticalmanufacturing #RandD #drugdevelopment

Check out the Coflore RTR, without its enclosure, below: The Coflore RTR is our largest volume flow reactor, which can be integrated into a multi-tonne production line, boasting the capability of processing up to 100L of reagent materials for consistent product output without interruption. The reactor employs inertia-generated radial mixing. This means mixing performance isn’t reliant on rotating drive shafts, mechanical seals or wall-mounted baffles, this approach overcomes challenges experienced with other reactor models. Are you looking to achieve uninterrupted flow in your manufacturing facility? Explore the Coflore RTR in more detail here > https://lnkd.in/ea3UxD3k #continuousflow #flowreactor #processmanufacturing

It’s believed that batch processing remains the standard within the fine chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Batch chemistry is a well-established process of a one-time reaction in a closed vessel, followed by reset. The well-known protocols and techniques associated with batch means that it is a go-to choice for manufacturing, it is also flexible to work with various reactions and productive in the quantities it can handle. Flow chemistry is a growing approach where the reaction is continuous, with constant input and output. The reaction in flow is isolated and continuous, this means that the reactor vessel is smaller, more controlled and inherently safer than batch. Safety and control bring productivity, consistency and efficiency. Pair these with the capability of handling production-scale volumes, and flow brings more benefits than batch! Ready to transition? Simply put, flow chemistry brings versatility, productivity and efficiency to manufacturing. The method of production unlocks new control over reaction parameters, including heat transfer, mixing, residence time and more. From this, the reactions that were once labour-intensive, unsafe and inconsistent in product quality are improved all around. Flow chemistry is important because it allows various sectors to perform potentially hazardous reactions, safely. This is a great baseline for optimisation since more control offers both a safer process and can allow for improved product quality, both of which are two factors manufacturers want to maintain during scale-up. This week we’re going back to basics with the who, what, where, when and why of flow chemistry. To start, what is flow chemistry? 🤨 Flow chemistry, also known as continuous flow chemistry, is the method of conducting chemical reactions in a continuously flowing stream. The key principle is that the starting materials enter a flow reactor at the same rate that the product exits, resulting in a seamless process. 🔄 Essentially, the reactors operate at a "steady state” to produce material continuously and indefinitely without interruption. Steady state in this context refers to the constant reaction conditions, allowing a process to produce material continuously and indefinitely, without interruption.
