Helping disadvantaged young people re-build their lives by providing a safe place to be and a full support programme.

About us

Amber provides a safe temporary place to live for young people who are experiencing homelessness, mental ill health and unemployment. We help them to address any issues they may have, and provide practical and emotional support helping young people transform their lives. We focus on employment, living independently, health & wellbeing and personal development. 122,000 young people face homelessness every year in the UK and once homeless it can be very difficult to find a job and move back into accommodation. Amber provides a safe structured environment at four residential centres in Surrey, Kent, Devon and Wiltshire where young people are given the time, space and support to sort out their problems and re-build their lives. The ultimate aim is to equip young people to find direction in life, work, accommodation and a sense of their own self-worth in the community, allowing them to move back into employment, education or training. Being residential is key, providing a supportive and encouraging environment with structure and boundaries, positive peer support and practical activities so young people can overcome their problems and feel valued and motivated as they work at turning their lives around – and every year 70- 80% successfully do so.

Earlier this year Patrick was sleeping in a field after fleeing an abusive relationship. Luckily he found Amber and moved to Farm Place, our centre in Surrey. While with us he followed our development programme and received specialist support which helped him get back on his feet. 🧡   The Independent recently shared his story in an article on EveryYouth's campaign highlighting the impact the employer National Insurance hike will have on charities like ours.    Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/etTujtCa #Surrey #News #NationalNews #NationalInsurance #Charity #EveryYouth

  • We love getting involved with our local communities at Amber. 😊 Last week young people from Ashley Court, our centre in Devon, joined the lovely people at Sustainable Tiverton on a litter pick! The group spent several hours walking around the town collecting litter and chatting about sustainability. At the end they had hot soup and cupcakes in the community orchard. Wendy from the group said. “Thanks so much. We did an amazing job of gathering 12 large bags of litter, walked far, chattered and strolled and it was a total pleasure to be out about town with you all.” Wendy also took recordings which will form part a programme about the project for BBC Radio Devon. #Devon #Tiverton #Community #Sustainability

  • Today is #InternationalMensDay24. 🧡 Did you know homelessness (especially street homelessness) disproportionately impacts men? Did you know suicide rates are higher in men than women? Did you know men are much more likely to be dependent on illegal drugs than women? Every year at Amber the majority of the young adults we work with are male. Whatever a young person's gender we see their potential and work with them so they can see it too. Here are just a few of the young men we have worked with in the last 2 years. Their stories are on our website. #CreatingOpportunities #BrightFutures #TransformingLives #Charity #SupportedHousing #AwarenessMatters #EndYouthHomelessness #Kent #Surrey #Wiltshire #Devon

  • We love working with businesses of all types and sizes at Amber! 😊 Recently Joe, a young person staying at Downsview, our centre in Kent, completed work experience with Turner Pope Investments (TPI) Ltd London. This was a fantastic opportunity for Joe to work with a company who provide investment services to corporate and high-net-worth private clients. Daniel Harris at Turner Pope Investments said "Joe has had some busy days, filled with learning about TPI, being briefed on the trade settlement process and how corporate broking transactions come together, Joe has listened attentively throughout and asked multiple questions along the way, it has been a pleasure to have him on board, everyone has enjoyed having him with us". Well done Joe - you obviously smashed it! 👏 #Kent #London #WorkExperience #CreatingOpportunities #BrightFuture

  • We can't believe it has been over a month since we opened the doors of Farm Place, our centre in Surrey, for Mole Valley Arts Alive Festival. 🌈👨🎨👩🎨🎨🎙 Arts Alive is one of the biggest community arts festivals in Surrey, comprising around 80 local events. This was the 5th Arts Alive celebration we have taken part in, and it was definitely the biggest and best yet. The young people at the centre were involved from the beginning when they chose the theme of Illusion and Fantasy. Exhibits included pieces inspired by Alice in Wonderland, a fairy village and a wizard mushroom house, complete with a wizard performing spells! 🍄🧚♀️🧡 We were blown away by the support that we received from the local community. A whopping 40 visitors dropped in including Mary Huggins Arts Alive Chair, Mole Valley District Council Chairman Councillor Elizabeth Daly plus donors, supporters and referrers.  Visitors had the opportunity to take part in a live music session delivered by Jack, courtesy of Surrey Arts, enjoy a live art workshop delivered by two young people and had the opportunity to buy handcrafted cards, made by staff and young people at the centre. Delicious artisan coffee was also available, thanks to Chimney Fire Coffee I B Corp™ who partnered up with Pocket Angel Home catering van. Tempting homemade cakes were enjoyed by many and some visitors even bought handpicked, fresh dahlia flowers from a local flower farm Froggetts Farm Flowers. #Surrey #MoleValley #ArtsAlive2024 #Community #Art #Music #OpenMorning #Charity #SupportedHousing

  • Paige, 20, has recently moved on from our Devon centre to a house share and a job at Exeter Chiefs rugby ground. 😊 Paige’s future is now looking bright, but things were not always this way. Her early childhood was rough and she was adopted at 4 years old. “After I was adopted, things got much better but then went downhill again when I became a teenager. By 16 I was very rebellious and getting into all sorts of trouble. I got into toxic relationships and was drinking too much. I ran away a few times and ended up pushing my mum and dad away. Before I came to Amber I was living in a horrible hostel with no real support and people taking drugs all around me. My first few months at Amber were rocky. My emotions were all over the place and I’d get upset all the time. I’ve calmed down during my time here and feel a lot more level-headed now. I learnt to put myself first more and prioritise my wellbeing. The Amber staff are amazing – always encouraging and want the best for everyone and treat everyone like individuals. The programme has helped my confidence, and I now feel like I can do challenging things. I now put myself out there. I’ve even joined the WI!” While at Amber Paige had the opportunity to go on a voyage with the Ocean Youth Trust South. “This was the highlight of my time at Amber and I wouldn’t have had the confidence to put myself forward without Amber. Being on the boat taught me how to persevere at things and how to get on with people. I loved it so much that when I was given another opportunity, I jumped at it. My second voyage was a longer one and I had to raise some money towards it and fly to Guernsey to catch the boat.” ⛵ Looking forward Paige has been able to move into a house share with the support of the EveryYouth Housing Fund. “I would not have been able to move on without it. I’d have no choice but to go to another supported housing project.” Paige is now looking to the future with hope but will never forget her time at Amber “I’m so proud of my time at Amber and so happy with what I’ve achieved. Without Amber I think I’d still be absolutely lost.” #AmberSuccess #RealStory #BrightFuture #CreatingOpportunities #TrueStory

  • We are so grateful to the team at Modus who recently swapped out their usual cost plans and measuring tools for paint brushes and shovels, to help us at Downsview, our centre in Kent. 🛠 In total they spent over 100-man hours at the centre to improve some of the facilities. 💪 They providing all the materials and worked both outside and inside! Inside they refreshed the lounge and games room with a fresh coat of paint, brightening the spaces where the young people relax and unwind. 🧡 Outside, they worked to create a new paved chill-out area, complete with a pergola, giving our young people a calm and inviting spot to spend time outdoors. Some of the young people joined them and helped with both the painting and the outdoor construction. Martin Munday; Director said "Modus are excited about the future ongoing support we can provide to Amber and the young people they support. As a business working in the construction industry, we have a huge network of contacts and we hope to be able to engage with this network to provide inspiration to the young people at the centre about the diverse opportunities in the industry. Our plans include helping them source work opportunities, apprenticeships and training so we can support them in returning to a life outside of Amber. The best part of undertaking these projects was being able to work alongside the young people at Amber, to hear about their experiences, achievements, aspirations for the future and how Amber has reinvigorated their belief in themselves. We wish to thank Amber for allowing us the opportunity to come into your lovely home, to meet and get to know the incredible young people and see the amazing work Amber Foundation do. We hope this is the beginning of a lasting and rewarding relationship." #Kent #CSR #WorkingTogether #Volunteering #SupportedHousing #KentConstruction

  • At Amber we love engaging with businesses of all sizes. We do this with fundraising, engaging with young people and volunteering at our centres. 😊 Businesses like Horeca who came to Farm Place, our centre in Surrey last month. They spent the day clearing, tidying and pruning the ground with some of the young people at the centre. 👨🌾 🧡 👩🌾 We have centres in #Devon, #Wiltshire, #Surrey and #Kent. Would your business like to work with us? Send us a pm. We'd love to have a chat. #Volunteering #CSR #Gardening #Charity #SupportedHousing #YoungPeople #Partnership
