It was great to be on the Wonkhe podcast this week championing the work of Student Services professionals in the sector. One of the key items we discussed on the podcast was the new report from TASO on student mental health which I was able to attend the launch of last night. The findings, unlikely to be surprising to those working in this space, are stark. Reporting mental health difficulties was higher amongst LGBTQ+ groups, particularly for trans and non-binary students. 31% of students considering dropping out of university cited poor mental health as the main reason. The next popular reason provided was financial difficulties, but by 6.6% of students. This demonstrates how integral student mental health is in student retention. The report advocates for a public health approach to student mental health. At AMOSSHE, The Student Services Organisation we celebrate and support all types of collaborative approaches, both within HE and across other sectors to enable positive student experiences.

Senior Higher Education Leader: Vice Chair of AMOSSHE, the Student Services Organisation and Head of Student Support and Wellbeing at Lancaster University

I had a fantastic time at AMOSSHE, The Student Services Organisation Winter Conference on Friday - I'm genuinely feeling inspired and re-energised from hearing about the brilliant work of our AMOSSHE members in building strong student and staff communities. Thanks so much to our amazing National Office team and Emma Bales and Sally Lambah for organising such a great event. I was also delighted to launch our new AMOSSHE 5 year strategy alongside AMOSSHE Chair Jill Stevenson. Based on three core values - Supportive, Collaborative and Impactful - our vision is to strengthen our community of exceptional Student Services leaders delivering an outstanding student experience. In 5 years we want all our AMOSSHE members to be able to say that: * they are engaged in our community according to their diverse needs * they have enhanced their professional skills and developed their careers; and * Our combined expertise has impacted the development and success of higher education We've started work on delivering this strategy already - lots of exciting developments to follow this year!
