Take the latest look at our Energy Centre 👀 The Energy Centre project at our Tweed Valley Maltings in partnership with AMP Clean Energy continues to progress. With the three 6MW biomass boilers and the 12MW electrical boiler now in place, we will shortly be commencing the commissioning stage ⚡ The project is combining heat electrification with biomass energy to decarbonise the energy-intensive kilning stage of the malting process 💨 Once fully operational in 2025, we are anticipating up to an 80% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions at our Tweed Valley Maltings and, due to the size of the maltings, it also means up to a 55% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions company-wide. This will positively impact not only our own objectives of achieving net zero Scope 1 & 2 emissions and carbon neutral malting barley production by 2030, but also the sustainability objectives of the distilling and brewing customers who receive malt produced at this site 🌍 #simpsonsmalt #drone #energycentre #renewables #renewableenergy #windenergy #biomass

We hit an incredible milestone last week with our first successful trial dispatch of a generator for a transmission constraint as part of the MW Dispatch operational trials ⚡ AMP Clean Energy, became the first DER customer to participate in this market based Transmission Constraint Management service in the South East part of England. A test of the Whole System approach was conducted in which the National Energy System Operator (NESO) control room issued an instruction through the UK Power Networks' MW Dispatch solution to AMP's Distributed Energy Resource (DER). This instruction is intended to directly alleviate transmission constraints that could occur before faults. 🚀 The MW Dispatch service, a collaborative initiative between UK Power Networks and NESO, has already unlocked capacity for over 1.5GWs and connected 38MWs of generation and battery assets 🌟 This is a monumental achievement which proves our End-to-End capability with enhanced T-D data sharing at Day-ahead & Intra-day timescales; and web API-based dispatch. We're on the brink of making the service live in the coming few weeks, and the team is super excited. Stay tuned! 💥 Sima Davarzani, MSc, PhD, MIET, CEng Rachael Raine Steve Backhouse Caspar R. • We reached another exciting milestone at Simpsons Malt last week with the delivery of our first-of-its-kind electric boiler. It’s also the perfect time to introduce Sam Seaton, our Site Manager, who has already been instrumental at the Berwick-upon-Tweed site. Since joining AMP in early summer, Sam has become an integral part of our team, bringing her proactive leadership and hands-on approach to every aspect of the project. She has successfully recruited a full team, including two mechanical engineers and an electrical engineer, who are all dedicated to ensuring the smooth installation and commissioning of the electric and biomass boilers. Sam’s commitment to fostering strong relationships - both within AMP and with Simpsons Malt - has already had a significant positive impact. The arrival of the innovative electric boiler, powered by curtailed wind energy, is set to revolutionise energy use at Simpsons Malt and within the Scotch Whisky industry. Alongside the three 6MW biomass boilers, the project will deliver impressive environmental benefits: 💨 25,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions saved annually 🌱 An 80% reduction in carbon emissions at their malting facility 🌍More sustainable malt production, helping Simpsons and their customers achieve ambitious net-zero targets With Sam’s leadership and a strong team in place, including partners at Vital Energi Utilities Limited and Simpsons Malt Limited, we’re confident this revolutionary project will be a long-term success. A big congratulations to everyone who has contributed to getting us to this point. We look forward to seeing the lasting positive impact this project will have—not just for Simpsons Malt, but for the future of sustainable energy ⚡ 👏

  • 🌿 Another Major Milestone Achieved in Our Simpsons E-Boiler Project! 🌿 We’re excited to announce that the 12MW electric boiler has officially arrived at Simpsons Malt’s Berwick-upon-Tweed site! This marks another pivotal moment in our partnership to revolutionise energy use in the Scotch Whisky industry. By integrating this cutting-edge electric boiler alongside the three 6MW biomass boilers, the site is set to achieve: 🌱  An 80% reduction in carbon emissions at the UK's largest malting facility 💨 25,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions saved annually 🏭 Greener malt production, with 260,000 tonnes of malt produced each year on site – 90% of which is supplied to distilleries 🔋 This electric boiler will be powered by curtailed wind energy that would have otherwise been switched off, making the malting process more sustainable than ever before. This doesn’t just help Simpsons meet their net zero goals, but impacts all their customers sustainability goals too. We’re proud to work with Simpsons Malt Limited and Vital Energi Utilities Limited in this bold step forward, not just for malting, but for the entire Scotch Whisky sector’s journey to net-zero. This is a big step towards creating a smarter energy future.

Cheers to a more sustainable future for the Scotch Whisky Industry! 🌿⚡🥃 Exciting news from Simpsons Malt: The game-changing 12MW electric boiler has just arrived at their Berwick-upon-Tweed site after completing the 360-mile trip from Norway! Why is it such an exciting moment? • This boiler is set to help slash carbon emissions by a whopping 80% at the UK's largest malting site • It will work alongside three 6MW biomass boilers, reducing emissions by 25,000 tonnes annually • The site produces 260,000 tonnes of malt per year, with 90% going to distilleries This isn't just about Simpsons Malt… It’s a big step forwards for their customers in the Scotch whisky industry. By decarbonising their operations, they're helping their customers achieve their net-zero goals too. One of the things which makes this project truly special is that the boiler will use excess renewable electricity from North Sea wind farms, making the energy-intensive malting process greener than ever before. Here’s to our partners Simpsons Malt Limited and AMP Clean Energy on reaching an exciting milestone! 🥃 https://lnkd.in/er9x2gjc #netzero #foodanddrink #netzero #windpower #electricificationofheat
