This evening, at a The World Bank-hosted side event at #COP29 titled "The Global Cost of Climate-Health Inaction: Price Tag and Role of Public & Private Sectors," Dr. Githinji Gitahi shared an inspiring and urgent vision for the future of #ClimateHealth financing and action as we look ahead to #COP30. His remarks highlighted: ✅ The critical steps required to address the financial and systemic gaps in climate-health #action. ✅ The pivotal role of partnerships—at both global and country levels—in driving meaningful #change. 💡 As Dr Githinji emphasised, the cost of inaction far outweighs the investment in collaborative solutions. 💬 How can we mobilise resources and partnerships to realise this vision? African nations are at a crossroads, facing unsustainable debt burdens, high climate adaptation and development needs. Africa requires $50bn in annual investment to meet its climate adaptation needs. #AMR is one of the most pressing public health challenges facing us today. Already, Africa bears the highest burden. And if nothing is done about it, in the near future, we could lose millions of people in Africa to AMR every year. At #UNGA79 we brought together GSK Devex Ministry of Health, Kenya Federation of African Medical Students' Associations (FAMSA) Africa CDC to discuss what local solutions exist and how we can develop multisector partnerships to test and scale these solutions.
