  • Huge milestone for Appella!

🚀 Appella AI's new AI Personal Shopper is Now Live on the Shopify App Store in the UK! 🇬🇧 It is crazy to think we only started working in e-commerce and building less than 2 months ago. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁? With just a 3-man team, we built a production-ready product capable of scaling to meet the demands of busy e-commerce stores—handling constantly changing product catalogues and thousands of customers browsing, shopping, and engaging with the AI all at once. It took a few long weekends, lots of coffee (or hot chocolate for Sujith Aleshwaram), and embracing a new way of building tech. This time we really leaned into the power of using AI to build AI, using tools like v0 by Vercel and Agents by Replit to speed up our development process and keep things lightweight. These tools let us work faster, smarter, and more efficiently than I ever thought possible. Small, agile teams can now achieve what used to take much larger teams months (or even years!) to deliver. It’s an exciting time to be building. Big shoutout to George Drayson, our Chief AI Officer, and Sujith Aleshwaram, our CTO, for their incredible effort in making this happen! We’re already working on some next-level features and can’t wait to hear what you think. Check out our Shopify listing here: https://lnkd.in/eXU38FBy And a big thanks to Shopify for their incredibly efficient review process! #ecommerce  #ai  #shopify  #aiagents

  • The AI Agent Explosion at WebSummit #WebSummit 2024: Over 70,000 people, 3,000 startups, and one dominant theme—#AI. From buzzwords to bold claims, it felt like stepping into the AI Agent gold rush. Here’s what stood out: 👉 AI Agents Everywhere, But What’s the Long-Term Plan? AI Agents were everywhere, tackling everything from recruitment to customer service to finance. While many startups showcased promising features, the similarities between them were hard to ignore. Many founders expressed concerns about the sheer number of competitors—some even exhibiting right next to them. Differentiation was often at a feature level but rarely extended into a compelling long-term vision. 👉 Chat Dominates, But Voice Is Next Chat remains the primary interaction format for now, but the shift to voice feels inevitable. Many startups are already testing speech-to-speech models, preparing for when costs drop. 👉 How Are Investors Meant to Pick the Winners? With so many startups playing in similar spaces, it’s a difficult task for investors to separate hype from genuine innovation. Even some traditional software development companies have now rebranded as AI Agent developers. 👉 Startups vs. Giants: Who Will Win? Big players like LVMH showcased how they’re building AI solutions in-house, harnessing their resources, data, human capital, and scale. The challenge for startups is clear: can they compete by being more agile and innovative, or will the giants dominate through sheer capability? 👉 Application vs. Infrastructure Layer Conversations at WebSummit were heavily focused on the application layer. Most startups were building on top of closed-source foundational models, typically OpenAI, with the majority relying solely on prompt engineering. Among the few that were fine-tuning, it was typically through OpenAI's platform. 👉 Will AGI Save Us or Destroy Us? One of the best moments at WebSummit was the debate between Max Tegmark (Future of Life Institute (FLI) and Thomas Wolf (Hugging Face) on whether AGI will lead to the destruction of humanity or unlock groundbreaking innovation in critical areas like healthcare and energy. What do you think? I truly believe we’re just getting started with AI and the best is yet to come. It’s an exciting time to be in this field—there’s so much potential, and I can’t wait to see what gets built next!

Had a lot of fun creating this video to celebrate the launch of Imperial Global USA! 🇬🇧🇺🇸 Imperial College London's new hub in San Francisco is a major leap forward for UK tech. Bringing together expertise from both sides of the Atlantic allows us to leverage deep scientific experience and tech-forward thinking to drive transformative advancements across industries like #healthcare and #AI. Having studied at both Imperial College London and UCLA, I know firsthand the power of cross-Atlantic collaboration. I'm looking forward to seeing the SF hub in action and making Appella AI a trans-Atlantic company! In that same spirit, check out a glimpse of what we’re building at Appella AI with this California-inspired product demo at the end of the video. 🏄♂️

Lessons in Building AI Agents: Why Shipping Early is Key As a founder, I’ve learned the hard way that trying to “perfect” everything before launch can backfire. We’ve delayed launches to polish features or add “just one more thing,” stretching timelines and sometimes missing what users truly needed. In spirit of Appella AI's new focus on AI Agents for Personal Shopping, we’re committed to moving fast, iterating, and building alongside our users. That’s why Appella AI will be announcing its closed beta next week—so stay tuned! Here’s what’s shaping our approach now: 1️⃣ Learning from (and Embracing) Imperfections Releasing early has shown us the value in imperfection—it highlights real challenges that help us adapt with purpose. Early feedback is a powerful replacement for endless assumptions, guiding us to create a product that resonates. 2️⃣ Building Alongside Our Community Our early users provide some of our best insights. Launching in stages allows customers to be co-creators, shaping the experience based on their own needs. 3️⃣ Pacing Development to Stay Agile Instead of planning one big reveal, we’re focused on smaller, faster releases that let us respond to feedback and stay flexible. Each step has become more strategic and meaningful. 4️⃣ Focusing on Essentials First By launching early, we’re able to prioritise only what matters to users, creating a product that’s relevant and adaptive without unnecessary features. P.S. Here’s a sneak peek at an early version of our AI Personal Shopper for a California-inspired Surf Store that George Drayson, Sujith Aleshwaram and I had fun building 🌊 (Video on this to come) #StartupLessons #ClosedBeta #startup #AI #Appella #AIAgents #ecommerce

We’re making a bold move at Appella AI — we're going all in on revolutionising fashion e-commerce! After months of building various AI agents, speaking with top brands, and really thinking about what we want to build, George DraysonSujith Aleshwaram, and I have found our focus: AI Shopping Agents for fashion e-commerce. We’re excited about transforming how fashion brands connect with their customers online and building an AI Agent that we would personally use ourselves — a tool that makes shopping smarter, more intuitive, and personalised for every shopper. Why is it that every fashion e-commerce store looks the same, whether it’s a luxury brand or not? Ever been faced with hundreds of options, only to feel overwhelmed or find that the item you finally decide on doesn’t come in your size? Well, it’s not just you. Shoppers want recommendations that feel handpicked, but most online experiences fall short. And brands want happier customers, fewer returns, and better insights into what their customers really want. That’s why we’re launching Appella Atelier — a platform that helps brands deliver hyper-personalised AI shopping agents. Here's what it offers: ↳ Happier Shopping Experience: Customers enjoy personalised, in-store-like interactions that feel seamless and intuitive. ↳ Increased Revenue: Tailored recommendations lead to higher sales, more repeat purchases, and fewer returns. ↳ Deeper Customer Insights: Real-time data helps brands make smarter decisions and refine their offerings. ↳ Customisable AI: Brands can tailor the tone, look, and personality of their agents to perfectly match their brand’s identity. Say goodbye to those boring chatbots that are only there to get confused and not help or understand your query. We are not here just for customer support, we are here to improve the customer experience. We're excited to bring this to life and to change the fashion e-commerce industry! Sign up for the waitlist now and be one of the first brands to integrate an AI Shopping Agent into your e-commerce store. https://lnkd.in/enKB7wir #Appella #FashionEcommerce #AI #Personalization #Innovation #AppellaAtelier #fashion #ecommerce #CX #Customerservice
