About us
Aptimus Capital Partners is a European private markets manager with offices in London and Madrid. We focus on non-sponsored lending in geographies and sectors underserved by private capital. Our investment thesis is underpinned by three factors: 1) an undersupply of capital exists in attractive geographies and sectors, 2) better risk / return opportunities exist in the non-sponsored, middle market and 3) impact and sustainability themes can be utilised as an additional driver of returns. Our Sustainable Asset Based Lending Strategy focuses on providing financing to UK SMEs and middle market companies for specialist equipment across renewable, recycling and offshore servicing sectors. Whilst our Private Credit Impact Strategy provides financing to middle-market businesses in the Iberia region that aim to deliver a positive impact for society.

Last week our Co-founder and Chairman, Ivan Cristobal Gonzalez, participated in a highly engaging panel on new forms of financing and sustainable investment, which served as a close to the Spainsif’s Sustainable and Responsible Investment Week. The event, organized by Spainsif and AUREN, featured insightful discussions with industry leaders Amaya Aragón Valor , Rodrigo Gómez Sánchez and Berta Ares Lombán. Together, they explored the integration of ESG and sustainability aspects into investment processes and how strong performance in these areas can create both winners and losers. Iván also discussed the impact opportunities we are seeing in the SMEs and MidCaps space in the Iberian market. Led by Christian Juel, Head of ESG and Impact, and Manuel Salvador Doncel Carrillo, Associate Vice President, we utilise our proprietary impact framework to assess and quantify impact for each investment opportunity. We focus on three main drivers: 1) the intentionality of the business and the social / environmental issue they are looking to address, 2) the additionality of any investment made and how we can accelerate impact and 3) the measurement of that additionality. We believe in strategic engagement and a responsible stewardship approach, structuring tailor-made strategies for each business and helping them address the challenges of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). We do this in addition to assessing the economic value of our impact strategy, viewing this as an important return driver as investors increasingly demand measurable impact outcomes. We believe that enhanced ESG and Impact alignment has the potential to translate into increased equity value. As the landscape of sustainable finance evolves, we remain dedicated to this and driving positive change in the industry.

Why Iberia? A question we are often asked. In addition to operating in the region for over seven years, and having what we believe to be differentiated on-the-ground origination capabilities, Iberia has the structural characteristics and natural asset base that offers many distinct impact and sustainable opportunities. It is a region yet to experience a significant influx of private capital, whilst has improving economics, a skilled talent pool and a rich eco-system of middle market businesses where consolidation has yet to take place. It is an impact rich environment where many businesses, with the right support and capital, can accelerate their growth and realise their impact potential. Christian Juel, our Head of ESG and Impact Alignment, and Manuel Salvador Doncel Carrillo, Associate Vice President, would be happy to discuss in detail with those interested in finding out more. #impactinvesting #privatedebtinvesting

I very much enjoyed participating in a wide ranging panel discussion at the Private Debt Investor Europe Summit last week alongside panellists: James Ruane, Managing Director at Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), James King, Head of ABS at M&G Investments, Roxana Mohammadian-Molina, Chief Strategy Officer at Blend Network and Melanie Lawrence, Senior Manager at African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). With our moderator John Bakie, News Editor at Private Debt Investor, we explored some of the key dynamics and opportunities currently driving the growth of the Asset-Backed Lending market, including Aptimus Capital Partners’ sustainable ABL strategy, focused on lower-middle market infrastructure and specialist equipment as important ‘scaffolding’ in the transition to a lower carbon economy. #PDIEurope2024
