Places are now available for the Archives of IT's 2025 Forum on Norms of the Digital Age from Students to States. The Forum will take place from 10am-5pm on Tuesday 28 January 2025 at the Livery Hall of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists and online. We will be bringing together a high-calibre, multi-disciplinary set of academics to meet with practitioners and leaders from civil society, business, industry, and government. They include Professor Richard Ling, who will give a keynote examining the evolution of norms regarding various digital domains, such as remote work, remote education, and online shopping, before, during and after COVID. There will be a roundtable on Professionalism in the Digital Age, chaired by Professor Jim Norton and featuring distinguished speakers, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, IT entrepreneur and Lord Lieutenant of London and Paul Martynenko MBE, former IBM senior technical executive for Europe and a BCS Past President. Journalist and technologiest Bill Thompson, who was co-presenter of Digital Planet on BBC World Service for 20 years, will give a keynote speech on Journalism in the Digital Age: Changing Roles and Norms. He will argue that digital media have created networked amateur or citizen journalists, some of whom have been perceived as a challenge to professional journalists. And there will also be a session and on Norms for Students of the Digital Age – From Calculators to ChatGPT and a Paper Session from Multiple Disciplinary Perspectives. Professor William H. Dutton will conclude the event with his observations and thanks. Bill is a Trustee of the Archives of IT and Chair of the Forum Programme Committee. He was founding director of the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford and Oxford’s first Professor of Internet Studies. Currently, Bill is a Fellow at the Oxford Martin School, University of Oxford and Director of the Portulans Institute, Washington DC. BOOK YOUR PLACE 🎟️ ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eRWhABqg

We are delighted to add our congratulations to Sir Robin Saxby, the founding CEO and former chairman of Arm, on his induction into the City of London Engineering Hall of Fame. 👏 Sir Robin was one of seven iconic engineers connected with the City of London inducted into the #Engineering Hall of Fame in a ceremony on the High Walkway of Tower Bridge on 31 October. He is only the second IT entrepreneur to take a place in the City of London Engineering Hall of Fame, the first being software engineer, IT entrepreneur and venture philanthropist Dame Stephanie Shirley. The accolade was launched in 2020 by the The Worshipful Company of Engineers - soon joined by six other Worshipful Companies with a connection to engineering, including the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists. There are now 14 inductees whose lives tell the story of almost 500 years of world-beating engineering innovations. In the Hall of Fame, Sir Robin and Dame Shirley sit alongside engineering pioneers such as Sir Henry Bessemer (1813-1898), the engineer and inventor who made it possible to mass produce high quality steel, and Sir Hugh Myddelton (1560-1631), the civil, water and mining engineer who brought clean water to the City of London. Sir Robin - one of the first ‘IT pioneers’ to be interviewed by Archives of IT back in 2017 🎤 👉 https://lnkd.in/eC-MYQgy - joined Arm full-time as the first CEO in February 1991. He led the transformation of the company from a 12-person startup to one of the most valuable tech companies in the UK with a market capitalization of over $10 billion at the end of his tenure, and some $150 billion now. But, as the warm reactions to news of his induction into the Engineering Hall of Fame show, Sir Robin has achieved much more than that during his career. At AIT, we are particularly grateful for his enthusiastic support of our work in education, enabling us to inspire future engineers and technologists by taking part in school visits – like the one in the photo below with Ama Frimpong, IET Young Woman in Engineering 2022 - and funding the creation of engaging computing content for primary school students. https://lnkd.in/ewgCV5hX #STEMRoleModels #STEMEducation #InspiringtheFuture
