Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) at Egwood CIC is a safe outdoor environment for people of all ages and varying needs.
About us
"Changing lives in our Community" Acts of Random Kindness (ARK), is a land-based day facility at Egwood, near the village of Merriott in South Somerset. On 12 acres of land, it comprises animals, horticulture and communal buildings, and offers a range of activities, experiences and support services to improve health, wellbeing and opportunities for all. The land-based environment gives the opportunity to undertake therapeutic work and referrals for those with physical and emotional health issues or those wishing to gain new skills. This may include those needing to be more active, overcoming trauma, physical recovery, or working through anxiety, stress or depression. We enable everyone to fulfil their potential by working to address issues at the earliest possible stage. Therapeutic use of outside spaces and animals has been proven to have a positive impact in helping to restore wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem with people of all ages. We currently have 12 acres of land/woodland at our disposal. It is our aim that we will educate our people in skills such as dry-stone walling, hedge laying, animal husbandry (including poultry keeping), forestry, horticulture (gardening, floristry, growing vegetables).

What a fantastic ARK ‘Team’ effort November has been in planting 8,000 Tulip Bulbs, despite the weather not being great for most of it. Can you see Carla keeping warm and dry in her new coat kindly sponsored by RevolutionRace Haven’t they all done well?

We had a lot of fun yesterday at ARK making these beautiful wreaths in time for the festive period and in partnership with Somerset Council and SS&L Don’t they look amazing?

What an achievement, on Thursday we attended the Health Service Journal awards with our colleagues from NHS Somerset and Arc Inspire. We were nominated for the combined work of the NHS and the two Armed Forces Hubs. We are very proud to say that we were awarded a High Commendation. So amazing and still buzzing. This Sunday is a very poignant time of reflection for the Armed Forces Community and the nation. Whilst some may find this time comforting thinking of loved ones or comrades, or gathering with others we have served with to remember, it is important to think about those who struggle with Remembrance Sunday, or those who are on their own. If this is you, please reach out. The Armed Forces Hubs are here to listen and if needed can steer you towards specialist help and support. We will remember them. NHS Somerset

Do you like our new wall? Some of our volunteers have been trying their hand at drystone walling, with the legendary Tom Trouton of @tom_troutondrystone_creations and his brilliant team. Tom is an incredibly skilled craftsman, who has been applying his trade at The Newt in Somerset and has kindly volunteered some of his time support ARK's attendees, learning a new skill. And this, is just one of the reasons to volunteer at ARK!
