ART Business Loans
Financial Services
Access to finance for West Midlands businesses unable to meet their needs from the banks.
About us
ART is a Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI), owned by its members – both borrowers and investors It was established in 1997 to help ‘alleviate poverty through enterprise’ by lending to businesses unable to access any or all of the finance they needed from the banks and so enable them to create or preserve jobs. Originally set up in Aston, ART (Aston Reinvestment Trust) was a pioneer CDFI in the UK. Its model – raising finance from member investors from the public and private sectors, as well as individuals, to lend to businesses in a specific area – has since been replicated around the UK. ART Business Loans’ mission today is “to ensure that viable business in the West Midlands can access the finance they need.” We lend when the banks either haven’t lent at all, or have already lent all they can. In fact we often lend alongside the banks and other financiers as part of a package. Read more below or click on the links to read more

Great news announced at Responsible Finance conference yesterday ..a big team effort and potential game changer for the sector. Certainly an opportunity for others to support the access to finance agenda for all. #SMELending #CDFIs #Accesstofinance https://lnkd.in/euwFzhzQ
✨A historic day for CDFIs✨ Double boost for small business finance: Unlocking finance and empowering growth across the UK This morning, at the Responsible Finance Member Day, two new programmes that will support CDFIs (Community Development Finance Institutions) were announced - a £150 million initiative from British Business Bank and a £4 million initiative from JPMorganChase. Our CEO Theodora Hadjimichael said, “We are delighted to announce this support from our valued partners. This package of lending capital from the British Business Bank and operational funding from JPMorganChase means that CDFIs can grow to turn the tide on the funding struggles that many small businesses around the country face.” 🌟 Key Highlights: £150m Community ENABLE Funding Initiative: Backed by the British Business Bank, this programme aims to catalyse up to £150m of lending over the next two years, helping CDFIs provide much-needed loans to small businesses across the UK. The programme is for loans to SMEs of more than £25,000 and will be delivered through accredited CDFIs. £4m Capacity-Building Programme: Supported by JPMorganChase, this initiative will strengthen CDFIs’ operations, enhancing their ability to deploy small business loans efficiently and scale their impact. 📈 These programmes will help CDFIs grow lending to businesses from £102 million in 2023 to £500 million annually by 2029, unlocking over £1 billion in additional finance for 15,000 small businesses in the UK’s most disadvantaged areas. CDFIs already make a huge difference to SMEs, with 98% of their loans supporting businesses outside London and under-represented groups with 41% of loans to women-led and 24% to ethnic minority-led enterprises. We’re delighted to see this support for CDFIs to scale their impact even further by backing underserved businesses and stimulating economic growth across the UK. 😍 This is a momentous day for the CDFI sector. We're proud of all of our members’ impact and the incredible work they do in their communities that has gotten us to this point. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/euwFzhzQ 👉 Repost and help us share this exciting news. #SMELending #CDFIs #ResponsibleFinance

ART Business Loans was proud to sponsor Midland Business Insider’s recent roundtable event, where a panel of industry experts explored the current funding landscape for SMEs. With more funding options available than ever before, it raises the question: why aren’t more businesses taking advantage of them? And why do so many turn to high-interest online providers? The conversation highlighted that improving access to advice might be key. Here are some key insights from the panel's discussion on funding for SMEs: To read the full article visit https://lnkd.in/eiCV4v25 Pam Sheemar CCIB J.P John Pocock - Managing Director, Halo Finance Stewart Good David Atkinson Darren Hodson Surjit Kooner Steve Walker Andy Moss MBA FCBI Mark Selby Paul Varley Alison Bradley Paul Stokes #SMEFunding #BusinessFinance #AccessToCapital #SMEs #BusinessGrowth #FundingOptions #FinancialAdvice #MidlandsBusiness #ARTBusinessLoans

Steve Walker attended the book launch of Sir Adrian Cadbury's biography, Beyond Chocolate, written by Patrick Donovan. We are proud of our heritage, with Sir Adrian Cadbury being our founder. He earned huge respect across many sectors and communities throughout his life. Benedict, Sir Adrian's son, also reminds us that "ART is a prime example of how to reconcile ethics and capitalism and so embodies my father's view of business."

Pleased to attend the launch of 'Beyond Chocolate' at (appropriately) John Cadbury House, Aston University. The Biography of Sir Adrian Cadbury by Patrick Donovan is proving to be a fascinating insight into his life and the huge respect that he earned across many sectors and communities which was also evidenced at the launch. Great to catch up with Sir Adrian's daughter, Caroline, who reminds readers of the passion that he had for Aston Reinvestment Trust (now ART Business Loans) which we were all able to witness first hand over the years. Benedict, Sir Adrian's son, also kindly reminded me that "ART is a prime example of how to reconcile ethics and capitalism and so embodies my father's view of business." Looking forward to the full read. Good to chat with Ruth Pipkin, Harj Millington, and Dr. A J. Nasir Awan MBE DL. Many thanks to Jas Sansi 📸for the photos.
