Life Science in 2024 just keeps moving and the demand for talent keeps on growing. In the first half of November, we have seen two major investments. 🔬 Today, AstraZeneca unveiled a $3.5 billion investment in the United States, aimed at expanding its research and manufacturing capabilities by the end of 2026. This includes $2 billion in new investments, expected to create over 1,000 high-skilled jobs and contribute to the growth of the U.S. economy. Key components of the expansion include: A state-of-the-art R&D centre in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts, A next-generation biologics manufacturing facility in Maryland, New cell therapy manufacturing capacity on the West and East Coasts and Specialty manufacturing in Texas. 🌍 In Europe - Aligned Bio, a SmiLe incubator company, has secured SEK $19.4 million to scale its semiconductor nanowire production. The funding, from both existing and new investors including SmiLe Inject Capital, will help commercialise the company's unique technology, which improves biomolecule detection sensitivity and simplifies nanowire production, making it more cost-effective. These Investments advance the life sciences industry by accelerating the development of innovative therapies and diagnostics, improving manufacturing capabilities.
