Our 2024 Christmas full team meeting in less than 30 seconds ⬇️ Last week our teams came together in Manchester to celebrate another amazing year at Ashton Fire. We started our day with some company updates, dressed in festive attire. Shout out to Ruoxi Shi for being our winner with her hand-made Christmas tree dress. Next, we made our way around the city on a Christmas themed treasure hunt with some group activities. Ice skating was a strong favourite! Ending our day with our annual awards dinner, we recognised those who have lived and breathed our values this year. Our full team meetings are a calendar highlight for us all and as always, a huge thanks to our wonderful Operations team for always coordinating such fun events to bring us all together.

Michael Kinsey will talk tomorrow at the Tall Building Fire Safety Conference. Will you be there? #AshtonFire https://lnkd.in/eCpqjCNJ
Associate Director | Chartered Fire Engineer | Researcher & Nerd about all things to do with Human Behavior in Fire/Evacuation Modeling
It’s been a fascinating day and bit at the Tall Building Fire Safety Conference so far including a lot of fruitful discussions from all manner of topics from the Grenfell Tower fire, smoke shaft construction, tall building firefighting, and a panel discussion about some of the industries biggest challenges. If you are around I will be giving a talk on Wednesday 4th entitled "Elevating Safety: Challenges with High-rise Residential Fire Lift Evacuation". Some of the things I will be exploring include: • The century-long “evolution” (or lack of) lift evacuation for high-rise buildings • Lift evacuation human behaviour • Emerging lift evacuation guidance and regulations (including the new BS 9991 and BS EN 81-76 (draft)) • Critical challenges in residential high-rise lift evacuation (beyond just putting in an evacuation lift) • Connecting the regulatory and design guidance dots

This year, we were privileged to sponsor three prestigious awards at the ATU Conferring Ceremony, recognising outstanding achievements in fire safety education. This marks our second year sponsoring the 3rd and 4th Year BEng awards, and we were proud to extend our support this year by sponsoring the BSc Hons (Online) award for the first time. Adam Taylor had the honour of presenting the following awards: Best 4th Year Dissertation (BEng Hons Fire Safety Engineering): Jason Dobson Best 3rd Year Fire Design Project (BEng Hons Fire Safety Engineering): Jordan Fortune Best Student Project (BSc Hons Fire Safety Engineering Online): Edel Kelly These awards reflect the dedication, innovation, and excellence demonstrated by these students, and each project highlights the critical thinking and commitment to fire safety that will shape the future of our industry. Congratulations to Jason, Jordan, and Edel on these well-deserved achievements! #AshtonFire #ATUConferring #FutureOfFireSafety #EngineeringExcellence #EmergingTalent

Last month, we saw a fantastic milestone for three talented members of our team: Sarah Barnett, Aaron Mc Glinchey, and Odhran Byrne, who graduated from ATU with honours degrees in fire safety engineering. Sarah achieved her BSc (Hons) in Fire Safety Engineering through a part-time online programme supported by Ashton Fire. Her commitment and hard work are an inspiration. Aaron and Odhran earned their BEng (Hons) in Fire Safety Engineering. Both joined us as interns in June 2023, balancing their final year at college with gaining hands-on experience at our Buncrana office. We’re thrilled they’ve now joined us as full-time graduate engineers. Please join us in congratulating Sarah, Aaron, and Odhran on their remarkable journey! #AshtonFire #FutureOfFireSafety #EngineeringExcellence #TeamSuccess

Edward Shapcott has been awarded the Ashton Fire best fire thesis prize at The University of Edinburgh for his work "heat induced delamination in timber: a novel peeling test." The £1000 prize recognises outstanding research in fire safety engineering. Edward's work developed a purpose-built experimental setup to explore thermal, mechanical, and flammability aspects of mass timber, creating new software tools for analysis. The research has been recommended for peer-reviewed publication. Congratulations Edward on this achievement in advancing our understanding of mass timber delamination behaviour under different fire and loading conditions. We're looking forward to your presentation to the team in January. #AshtonFire #BestFireThesis #FireEngineering #MassTimber
