Working on a not-for-profit basis, APSE is dedicated to promoting excellence in the delivery of frontline services.
About us
APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) is a non-profit local government network. We work alongside over 250 councils to deliver high-quality frontline public services across the UK. At APSE we work for our members, delivering help, advice, training and guidance on all frontline services to help councils achieve excellence in every service they provide to the public. Further, we are the foremost specialists in local authority frontline services; our extensive performance networks for frontline service providers allow councils to benchmark their performance in many vital areas, and pinpoint where they require more support. Once these areas have been highlighted, we can help to formulate solutions for the provider through our team of Principal Advisors and our extensive APSE Training courses and classes. Alongside this, APSE Solutions offers consultancy services and interim managers to anybody who requires extra help, though at a competitively reduced price for members. The areas we specialise in are: • Waste management, refuse collection and street cleansing • Parks, horticulture and grounds maintenance • Sports and leisure management • Catering (including school meals) • Local authorities commercialisation, income and trading • Building cleaning • Housing construction and building maintenance • Cemeteries and crematoria • Environmental health • Highways and street lighting • Vehicle maintenance and transport We also lead research programmes that explore a range of issues which impact upon both local authority frontline services and strategic public policy issues.

Additionally, there are exciting opportunities in new and emerging industries which require the commercial awareness and commercial thinking engendered in this one-day Masterclass. Our approach to commercialisation builds on best practice and innovation while ensuring that service delivery, business as usual and continuous improvement are not compromised and that councils do not lock themselves into a high-carbon future.

Time is running out to book your place! Putting service-user perspectives at the heart of performance reporting - Hear from Audit Wales in this 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 webinar for APSE member councils on Wednesday 11 November... A 2024 report by Audit Wales found few councils are putting the views of those who use local services at the core of their reporting, casting doubt on whether many councils have proper arrangements to secure economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the use of their resources (therefore failing in their statutory performance requirements under the Local Government and Elections (Wales) Act 2021). With speakers from Audit Wales and APSE Performance Networks, join our discussion exploring how councils can put service-user perspective information at the forefront of their performance reporting. Speakers include: 📣 Sara-Jane Byrne, Audit Manager, Audit Wales; 📣 Debbie Johns, Head of APSE Performance Networks; 📣 Dave Clark, Senior Business Development Officer, East Riding of Yorkshire Council. 👇 Book your place by click on the link below 👇 https://lnkd.in/g6Q_gmyN For more information, please contact Matt Ellis, APSE Principal Advisor, on mellis@apse.org.uk

From the tree-lined paths to the stunning views of the surrounding countryside, every detail is meant to create a calming and peaceful atmosphere. The building itself offers a welcoming and respectful environment. Inside, the chapel accommodates up to 120 people, with options for both traditional and more personalised services. Families can choose from full services, shorter cremations, or even direct cremations. Music and visual tributes are available to make each service personal. The chapel is also fully inclusive, offering a hearing loop for those with hearing impairments. One unique feature of the chapel is the water feature behind the catafalque, symbolising the different stages of grief." Lucia Gervis, APSE Solutions Client Coordination Officer, reflects on her visit to the first crematorium in Central Bedfordshire. Read online here 👇 https://lnkd.in/dUmMrXTY
